‘St. Denis Medical’ Compared To ‘The Office’
Ever since The Office ended in 2012, other shows have done their best to follow in its footsteps. The biggest reason The Office worked so well is that it followed a mockumentary-style dynamic. Nine seasons of The Office shed light on the mundane lives of a random group of employees working at a paper company. Other TV shows that have emulated The Office‘s magic include Modern Family, Abbott Elementary, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Now, the most recent show to hop on this bandwagon is called St. Denis Medical. This time around, the mockumentary-style show will follow a group of doctors and nurses working at a hospital.
Details About St. Denis Medical
The first episode of St. Denis Medical will premiere on November 12, 2024, on NBC. The show starts with a bang since the first two episodes will air back-to-back. Anyone who enjoys medical-themed entertainment will likely find amusement in this show. St. Denis Medical takes a lighthearted approach to the serious topic of healthcare. Other popular shows about hard-working doctors aren’t necessarily filled to the brim with jokes.
Just think of Grey’s Anatomy, The Resident, The Good Doctor, ER, or House, for example. These shows give viewers a glimpse into what the real lives of doctors are like, but they don’t leave much room for comedic relief. St. Denis Medical is the type of show that aims to make audiences crack a smile. Social media users have taken to Reddit to share their thoughts about the new show:
- “Looks like a cross between Superstore and Abbott Elementary in a hospital. I’m here for this.”
- “The Office in the Hospital. I dig it.”
- “My wife and I are in desperate need of a new Parks & Rec/Brooklyn 99 type show, so I hope this is good.”
- “I am always up for a new comedy, and this one seems nice and earnest. Adding humor to these stressful work environments can be gratifying and just what I need.”
- “Recycled setting, recycled premise, and recycled actors… but maybe this time it’ll work!”
While a lot of the comments are positive from excited fans planning to tune in, there are also a handful of negative remarks as well. Some are convinced that the mockumentary dynamic for modern TV shows is too worn out as a concept. Others don’t believe this show will hold a candle to another medical comedy that stole viewers’ hearts from 2001 until 2010. We’re referring to Scrubs, of course.
Ultimately, viewers will have to decide whether or not this show is worth watching for the long haul. Based on ratings and viewership, this show will either last for many seasons or face a cancellation early on. Are you looking forward to St. Denis Medical? Let us know in the comment section below.
