‘The Office’ Spinoff On Peacock: What You Need To Know
There is a spin-off coming to Peacock for The Office. However, it won’t include any characters from the original series and won’t even take place at the Dunder Mifflin paper company. However, it will be connected “behind the scenes.”
Here is what you need to know about the upcoming spinoff series and everything we know about it.
What Is The Office On PeacockSpin-Off About?
The Office spin-off series is not about anyone from the original series. At least not exactly. While names like Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and Rainn Wilson won’t be back, the people never shown will be. The new spin-off series will have the fictional documentarians who shot the fake documentary about Dunder Mifflin have a new assignment.
After “finishing” their work at Dunder Mifflin, the documentary crew has taken on a new documentary task at a different company. According to creator Greg Daniel, he wants to create a series that is a new story in a familiar universe. This means the show will take place in the same world as Office Space but at a different company in a different state.
“I don’t even know what you would call that. I don’t know if that’s like a sister show or something,” Daniel said (via Us Magazine). I don’t know what the term is. But it doesn’t feel like ‘reboot’ would be the appropriate term for that.”
The new series will be another mockumentary series, this time at a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters. According to the early word, the show might have the name The Paper, but it is not official.
When Will The Office Spin-Off Arrive?
There is no word yet on when The Office spin-off will premiere on Peacock, but it is assured to be part of that streaming service. Greg Daniel, who created the original series, will return for this new one.
As mentioned, the new series will follow a failing Midwestern newspaper that is nearing closure. However, the owner wants to bring it back but has to deal with volunteer reporters to make it work. The fictional documentary filmmakers behind The Office will show up to record their attempts as a docuseries.
There are also cast members signed on to appear in the series. Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley from Harry Potter) was one of the first people to sign on. Sabrina Impacciatore (Valentina from The White Lotus) also signed on around the same time.
Melvin Gregg (American Vandal), Chelsea Frei (The Time Traveler’s Wife), and Ramona Young (Legends of Tomorrow) also signed on for the new series.
