Taking to social media, Champion posted a video following treatment. While the affected area had been removed, he also revealed that he still needed more surgery.
On the post, Champion had shared, “Long day. And we got it all!” Advising fans to take such health concerns seriously, he added, “Now we begin the healing phase! Thank you all for sharing your stories and your kind-thoughts and prayers! Watch your skin and ask your doctor to examine anything that doesn’t seem right to YOU!” The video also show Champion stitched up after his procedure.
Champion continued to offer follow-ups to fans. In the first such post, he gave more information over the procedure in the caption. As it read, “Day three after a skin cancer removal surgery… Cancer was a basal cell… But was more difficult to get at because it was nodular… I know the scar looks a little rough right now… Certainly more than I expected… But I also know it’ll look great in a few months and I know there’s no more cancer in that spot.”
Champion Has Used His Treatments As A Teaching Moment For Fans
Over the years, Champion has become well-known for his work as a weatherman and having worked with ABC News and Good Morning America. He has also prominently worked with The Weather Channel, even having hosted his own morning show, America’s Morning Headquarters. In 2022, he was also notably announced as a contestant for the 31st season of Dancing with the Stars, where he was patterned with Cheryl Burke.
Champion’s most recent procedure will keep him from his work for around two to three days. He is expected to return after recovery.

As noted by Hello! Magazine, Champion has received multiple treatments over the years. This even included a basal cell carinoma while on-air.
Having initially been diagnosed with skin cancer at the age of 20, Champion attributed this to tanning in his younger years. Since then, he has encouraged fans to both regularly use sunscreen and receive skin checks.
