Sam Champion Shares Lifelong Health Struggles

Viewers love waking up to Sam Champion delivering the weather for the day. He has since made the move from GMA to Eyewitness News but the fans love him. No matter where he goes, it seems that his faithful viewers are willing to follow. He has gotten a great reception since he transitioned over and viewers have been reaching out via Twitter.

Thanks to technology, he and his buddy, Robin Roberts are able to chat and check in on each other during their respective shows. It’s as if Sam Champion never left. With all of the support he has gotten, it allowed Champion to be more vulnerable. According to The Sun, the sixty-two-year-old recently opened up about a health condition that he will likely deal with forever. Along with his family, he suffers from high blood pressure. Luckily, medication helps but will be something he will rely on for life. Fortunately, proper diet and exercise could allow Sam to lower his dosage which is always an amazing and positive thing.

Sam Champion had this to say: “So here’s the reason for the quick chat… Rubem and I usually do about a three- to five-mile walk in the park right around lunchtime. And today on Eyewitness News at 10am, one of the things we talked about was high blood pressure.” More so, he added: “And I told you that it’s been a problem for me and my family, and Shirleen [Allicot] talked about her family. And diet and exercise – depending on the reason that you have high blood pressure, which can be many – may not be a complete answer for you.”

Living Life

Sam Champion went on to share his situation and how he had to find the right medication for himself. Then, with diet and exercise, it became a balance. Rubem Robierb, for those who do not know, is Sam’s husband whom he wed in 2012. They love to adventure together and maybe that is what has helped Sam so much. Living an active lifestyle is paramount in staying healthy and, as Sam said, diet and exercise help him stay on a low dose of his meds.
