Mark Cuban'

One thing that’s not a secret about Mark Cuban? He’s an extremely wealthy individual! Mark currently has a net worth of $5.7 billion, according to Business Insider. How does he spend all of his money? For many, the goal of amassing tons of wealth is to create the freedom to travel. It seems that Mark caught the memo on that based on one of the jaw-dropping purchases he made back in the early 90s. These are the details.

What You Should Know About Mark Cuban’s American Airlines Purchase

Mark purchased a lifetime flight pass from American Airlines back in 1990. It cost him $125,000. This specific flight plan with American Airlines comes with some awesome benefits for luxury travelers. However, the most interesting detail of all is that Mark made the purchase when he was still feeling the effects of some hard liquor. He sat down to talk about it with Shannon Sharpe on the Club Shay Shay podcast to say:

“They’re like, ‘What do you think you’re going to do with all this money?’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t care about cars or houses, but boy, you know, I fly a lot for work.’ I got all that information, hungover as hell, and I signed up. Initially, it was $125,000 and then I upgraded it. I forget how much I paid, but it gave me almost unlimited miles for me and somebody else for the rest of my life.”

The American Airlines flight pass in question is called AAirpass. It was first launched in the early 1980s as an option for travelers who wanted to fly more luxuriously. The flight pass promises first-class travel seating for the rest of your life! When American Airlines first launched this option, they set the price based on each individual buyer’s age.

Mark was 32 years old when he went forward with this purchase, which is why it cost him $125,000. As of this publication, American Airlines no longer offers this sort of pass for people interested in luxury travel, no matter how much money you’re willing to shell out. Mark decided to make that purchase well before amassing his current net worth of $5.7 billion. He was still doing quite well for himself at the time, though.

As a reminder, Mark sold his first company at age 32. MicroSolutions was his software startup that went for $6 million. As of now, one of the big projects fans know and love Mark from is Shark Tank. The reality show has been around for 16 seasons starting in 2009.

It focuses on Mark and other wealthy businessmen and businesswomen bidding on different inventions and innovative ideas. Mark has since parted ways with the show, but episodes are now available for streaming on Hulu. What are your thoughts on Mark’s American Airlines flight purchase while he was under the influence?
