The latest drama surrounding Amber Portwood is wilder than a lot of what fans saw of her on Teen Mom. Amber was part of the cast lineup starting in 2009 when the show first premiered in 2009. At the time, she was pregnant with her first child with her ex-fiance, Gary Shirley. Now, she’s been in the midst of a hot mess with a more recent ex-boyfriend named Gary Wayte. Here’s what’s been revealed.

Gary Wayte Is Not Happy With Amber Portwood

The relationship between Gary (Wayte) and Amber did not end amicably, based on the stories that have been swirling. Amber’s Teen Mom co-star Catelynn Lowell confirmed that the details from Gary are all true. Gary claims his proposal to Amber on the show was staged. He claims MTV encouraged him to pop the question, and it wasn’t his idea at all. He says he didn’t even purchase the ring!

However, how Catelynn broke down the story makes it sound much less cringeworthy. According to Teen Mom Chatter, Catelynn commented on a video to say that Gary did propose to Amber the night before but then agreed to do it again for the cameras. She also clarified that the ring he proposed with was a family heirloom from Amber’s side. It’s not like the ring he had was a prop MTV producers handed him.

Amber hasn’t spoken up about the way Gary described their proposal, and it’s unclear if she ever will. If you were hoping to uncover updates about Amber from social media, you’re out of luck there too. She hasn’t posted anything on Instagram since December 30, 2023. The post she shared was a meme of herself with a text block that said, “Me anytime someone notices my glowup.” The image is one of Amber looking excited.

Has she been glowing up since that IG post? That would be debatable. Her life has been pretty rocky in 2024. The news of Gary going missing made major headlines in June. Some fans outright accused Amber of murdering him. She filed a missing person report on him, but he was located a few days later.

She sobbed on camera during an episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter saying, “That day, that man left for no reason. Why am I getting persecuted? ‘We know Amber killed him.’ I had to deal with that. Do you know how that feels? When people are calling you a murderer about your f***ing fiancé?”
