Why Demi Lovato Has Disassociated From Her Disney Past
If you’ve ever been curious to know if Demi Lovato misses her Disney Channel days, we’ve got your answer. It turns out that she doesn’t actually remember much of them at all. According to Demi, she totally disassociated from that time in her life. Demi has been super open and honest about mental health struggles she’s faced in the past. Here’s what she recently said about her disconnect from her Disney Channel days.
Demi Lovato Disassociated From Disney Channel
A new documentary called Child Star is now available for streaming on Hulu and Disney+. Demi spoke candidly about what it was like being a child star herself in front of the documentary cameras. While speaking with another Disney Channel star named Alison Stoner, Demi explained that she recalls filming Camp Rock in 2008, but she doesn’t quite remember what it was like filming the sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam.
In reference to Disney Channel stars in general, Demi said, “Disassociation: It’s a common thread between all of us.” She went on to say, “It was part of my disassociation that I don’t even remember so much of my show that I was on. But I do remember how difficult I was to work with, because I was in so much pain, and I was hurting.”
Beyond the Camp Rock franchise, Demi also starred on a show called Sonny With a Chance for two seasons. She landed the titular role in that show before its cancellation. Disney producers had plans for Sonny With a Chance to go on for at least a couple more seasons, but it ultimately got canceled because Demi needed to handle her personal struggles behind the scenes.
Demi also filmed a movie called Princess Protection Program alongside her former best friend, Selena Gomez. Demi and Selena used to be two peas in a pod in the entertainment industry. They were a couple of Disney Channel starlets who were constantly photographed together. The friendship seemed like it was built to last at the time, but it eventually crumbled.
Could This Revelation Change Things for Demi Lovato?
Now that Demi’s able to decipher the disassociation she was going through during her Disney Channel days, is it possible she might have an opportunity to reevaluate the demise of her friendship with Selena? Time will tell. Beyond Disney Channel, Demi has truly poured herself into her music career.
Her most recent album titled Holy Fvck premiered in 2022 filled with loads of angsty songs that fit into the pop-punk and hard-rock genres. Demi might’ve associated these with her Disney Channel days, but she seems very in tune with her music career.
