‘When Hope Calls’ Gets Winter Premiere

When Hope Calls is set to release its second season. The series, which serves as a spin-off of When Calls the Heart, will get a winter premiere on Great American Family. The season will be slightly shorter than the first season and will follow a two-part Christmas special.

The Story Is A Tale Of Two Sisters

The series revolves around a pair of orphaned Lillian and Grace, who were initially introduced in When Calls the Heart: The Greatest Christmas Blessing. Reuniting as adults, the two open up their own orphanage in 1916 Canada.

The series ultimately has origins in Janette Oke’s Canadian West series. When Hope Calls also inspired a series of books. Co-written by Oke with Laurel Oke Logan, the series was comprised of three books: Unyielding Hope, Sustaining Faith, and Unfailing Love.

Love is right around the corner for both sisters. Gabriel, a mountie, takes an interest in Lillian. Chuck, a rancher-turned-vet, is Grace’s love interest, but his mother Tess, disapproves.

As noted by People, the series serves as “a family drama centered on the town’s orphanage and its residents who meet tremendous challenges while creating a hopeful, faith-filled community on the cusp of change in the frontier town while nurturing the children in their care.”

The synopsis continued that “new characters are introduced that are seminal to the orphanage and children, the sprawling farms and ranchlands, and to the town of Brookfield who welcome a new Constable from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Mountie Michael.”

More Episodes Will Come Out In January 2025

Great American Family announced the series’ return on September 19. However, as filming in underway, the series is expected to premiere sometime in January 2025.

While the first season had ten episodes, with a few Christmas specials, the second season is only expected to have eight.

In a press release, Great American Media’s President and CEO Bill Abbott said that, “We were fortunate early on to understand that Janette Oke’s faith-filled characters had such rich origins that building entertainment universes from this world would present themselves over and over.”

Great American Family and Great American Pure Flix both shared the news on Instagram.

The post also shared a few actors who were attached to the second season. These include Cindy Busby, Christopher Russell, Nick Bateman, Wendy Crewson, Hanneke Talbot, Morgan Kohan and RJ Hatanaka.

The series originally premiered on Hallmark+ back when it was called Hallmark Movies Now. While there, it served as the network’s first original series. In addition to airing on the Hallmark Channel, the two-part Christmas special premiered on Great American Family in 2021. At the time, the Christmas special was treated as a de facto second season online.
