A new docuseries just hit Peacock following the story of a Grey’s Anatomy writer. The writer is Elisabeth Finch, a woman who lied to everyone around her about having cancer. She did this to earn sympathy and garner trust, all while lying about her medical conditions.

Here is a look at what the new docuseries is about and how you can watch it.

Grey’s Anatomy Writer Focus Of Peacock Docuseries

Peacock just brought a Grey’s Anatomy writer to the forefront in a documentary series called Anatomy of Lies. The series tells the story of Elisabeth Finch, a television writer who lied to everyone about a cancer diagnosis.  The docuseries will feature interviews with people close to Finch.

For those unfamiliar with the real-life story, former Grey’s Anatomy writer Elisabeth Finch confessed that she lied about her cancer diagnosis. She also lied about the fact that her older brother, Eric, died by suicide. While she was writing for the series, she lied about both her cancer and her brother’s suicide. Eric is alive and lives in Florida as a doctor.

Finch claimed that she lied as a form of dealing with trauma. “Some people drink to hide or forget things. Drug addicts try to alter their reality. Some people cut,” Finch said. “I lied. That was my coping and my way to feel safe and seen and heard.”

The lies surfaced when some of her past claims showed inconsistencies. She said she was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer as a child. She said she lost a child and a portion of her leg and ended up being misdiagnosed. She also said she was sexually and verbally abused by a male director while working on The Vampire Diaries.

Before Disney could launch an investigation after the lies surfaced, she quit and checked into an Arizona facility. Finch said her wife left her, her family disowned her, and she now can’t see the kids she helped raise. She admitted she started the lies during the WGA strike in 2007 when a knee injury brought her the attention she always sought. She then created lies to keep the attention coming.

What Will The Documentary Reveal?

The Anatomy of Lies synopsis reads: “The docuseries reveals how Finch, a master of manipulation, saved her best fiction for her own life story and exploited the empathy of those around her. Her final mark was trauma survivor Jennifer Beyer, who entrusted Finch with her deepest secrets” (via Us Magazine).

However, when Beyer learns that Finch has been lying about her trauma, she sets out to reclaim her narrative from someone who shows no signs of stopping the lies.

Finch joined Grey’s Anatomy in 2014 and wrote the “Silent All These Years” episode about sexual assault. While doing press for the acclaimed episode, she began building on her lies. Finch’s friends and loved ones were interviewed for the docuseries, but the former writer herself was not involved.

Anatomy of Lies hit Peacock on Tuesday, October 15. Are you planning on watching the series about the Grey’s Anatomy writer and her lies? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
