Survivor 47 premieres this week on CBS. The new season, which starts on Wednesday night, September 18, has an interesting cast and a few rule changes coming along the way. While promoting the new season, host Jeff Probst compared the reality television competition series to a popular fantasy epic series.

Here is why Probst says that the evolution of Survivor makes it feel like its own version of Game of Thrones.

Jeff Probst Compares Survivor To Game Of Thrones

Jeff Probst says that people who watch Survivor 47 this season will see how past seasons influence and impact it. According to Jeff Probst, the “moves and strategies employed in Survivor 46 will definitely impact Survivor 47.” Likely, he means that people who compete in this season watched past seasons and learned from other’s mistakes.

However, it also means that the rules and cast member choices evolve from one season to the next. It also involves players betraying and backstabbing each other, hoping to win the big prize. Fans might remember last season when two of the closest allies fell apart, and one of them voted for someone else in the final episode, the ultimate betrayal.

“The throne is never secure, and the crown is always up for grabs,” Jeff said in a promo for the new season (via TVLine). Probst said this season, the contestants have “big personalities with very clear agendas of how they want to play.”

The new cast includes Pod Save America co-host Jon Lovett, an ER doctor, a nurse, a pilot, a flight attendant, and more.

Are There Rule Changes On Survivor 47?

There will be some rule changes on Survivor 47, as Jeff Probst admits the show is always evolving. As usual, the contestants will be divided into three tribes of six people and face various challenges throughout the season.

“The moral dilemmas and extreme situations will test even the strongest competitor, and the mental and physical challenges require players to constantly fine-tune their strategies to survive another day,” the synopsis reads.

There will be one game that has a major change. One of the tasks in the new era is Sweat vs. Savvy. This event saw the two losing tribes of the first part of the season having to complete either the “Sweat” or “Savvy” tasks. It is the only way to get their basic camp supplies.

This season, things have changed. “We’ve evolved Sweat vs. Savvy into something a little different this season,” Jeff Probst said. “It’s the same goal, which is to earn tribe supplies for your camp, but the method for doing it is very different.” It appears fans will have to wait and see the difference.
