‘Twilight’ Animated Series, ‘Midnight Sun’ Coming to Netflix

Twilight animated series, Midnight Sun is coming to Netflix, meaning there will be a new generation of vampire fans. The animated series will be based on Stephanie Meyer’s novel of the same name. The book, released in 2020, follows the story of Twilight from century-old vampire, Edward Cullen so fans of the original books and movies will also enjoy the return of familiar characters.

The Twilight Saga took over the world years ago, what will it be like now? Vampire and werewolf fans were created all over the world with the release. The five films grossed over $3 billion at the global box office in total. Furthermore, the film made Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner rise to fame in such a short time.

For those who have never seen Twilight, it is a romance fantasy film series. The first film follows Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) who moves from Arizona to Forks, Washington, not expecting anything remotely drastic to happen. Then, she meets handsome and mysterious Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) who she feels connected to.

Moreover, Edward and the town’s mystery evolve as he is a non-blood-drinking vampire and the town is inhabited by many supernatural creatures. Unafraid of what could come from a human and vampire relationship, Bella begins a romance with Edward. Furthermore, the film series is well known for its love triangle that soon develops when the werewolf and forgotten childhood friend, Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) reenters the picture.

The books in the Twilight Series written by Stephanie Meyer are Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. These were all released between 2005 to 2008. Additionally, the films for these books were released from 2008 to 2012. Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined, was a gender-swapping of the first book released in 2015.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

‘Midnight Sun’ in the Making

Lionsgate was reportedly working on the Midnight Sun series in April 2023. In April 2024, it was confirmed by the Vice Chairmen of Lionsgate, Michael Burns, that it would be an animated series. Also, It was given a straight-to-series order at Netflix.

Sinead Daly is the writer and executive producer for the upcoming animated series. Daly has been a producer on shows like Tell Me Lies, Dirty John, and The Walking Dead: World Beyond. Meyer will be an executive producer along with Meghan Hibbett for Fickle Wish Films. Wyck Godfry and Marty Bowen will executive produce from Temple Hill Entertainment. Temple Hill produced the original Twilight films.

From Picturestart, Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey will produce. Additionally, also from Picturestart, Emily Wissink will be overseeing Midnight Sun for the company. Finally, it will be produced by Lionsgate Television.

Fans would probably love to see the original three in their roles again, but since the original films were released years ago, it is probably unlikely due to their age to play teens again. Perhaps they will join the film as minor characters, but nothing is certain as no cast information has been released yet.

There is also no trailer released yet as Midnight Sun is still in the early stages. Fans can rewatch their favorite supernatural creatures in the original films now on Amazon Prime or Apple TV+ to prepare for the animated series.
