‘Survivor 50’ Jeff Probst Talks Choosing All-Star Cast
Survivor 50 will be the show’s first all-star season with returning contestants since it started the New Era. When it comes to who will be on the series, Jeff Probst explained how he is going about figuring out who to invite. With 46 seasons to choose from so far, there are a lot of choices.
Here is what Probst said about the big anniversary edition of the hit reality TV show.
Jeff Probst Making Unusual Way Of Casting Survivor 50
Jeff Probst isn’t going anywhere. With Survivor 47 getting ready to premiere, the host has already talked about preparing for Survivor 50. With two more seasons after the upcoming one before that anniversary season, Jeff is talking about it because it will be a special one. That season will be the first all-star season of the New Era with returning stars.
When it comes to casting the show, Jeff has a ton of people to consider, from fan favorites to great challengers. “I printed out their faces on 4×6 magnetic sheets with their names, the season they first played, and how old they will be if they play in [Season] 50,” Probst said (via Variety).
Probst said he would place all these on a whiteboard and then figure out the puzzle before him. “How are you going to get this down to a handful of people to play Survivor 50 that will satisfy the fans and will honor 50 seasons?”
Jeff said they had a list of 200 people when they started considering this big anniversary season. This includes everyone they wanted to see, even those who said they didn’t want to do it. They whittled that list down to 125, and now there are 100 people left on it.
What Is Jeff Probst Looking For Concerning Survivor 50?
“50’s gotta be a celebration. Let’s do a great season of Survivor but put an emphasis on the word ‘fun,’” Jeff Probst said about choosing who they invite. He said he has notes, and he wants to know who will be “interesting” and who “makes no sense.”
With two seasons airing each year, Survivor 50 should arrive in the first half of 2026. According to Jeff, they are in post-production on Survivor 47 and pre-production on Season 49. Survivor 48 has already finished filming and will go into post-production after Season 47 starts airing.
Jeff said this job has no off-time for him, and he works around the calendar. “I’m starting casting on 49, and then we have 50 coming up this year, so that’s a bigger thing,” he said. “Then we also have the podcast that we’re doing. It’s a year-round job.”
