‘Dance Moms’ Child Performs JonBenét Ramsay Death Dance
Hulu has resurrected a classic TV reality show with the new Dance Moms: A New Era. The revival of the classic reality show where parents push their daughters to become great dancers might have crossed the line. The original series faced scrutiny thanks to former coach Abby Lee Miller. However, this controversy was using a tragic murder as the basis of a dance routine.
One of the kids danced a routine based on the tragic death of JonBenét Ramsey. Here is what you need to know.
Dance Moms: A New Era Has Child Dance Based On JonBenét Ramsey
Dance Moms: A New Era has a new instructor, with dance coach Glo Hampton working with promising students. The new Hulu series sees her wanting to take her dance school Studio Bleu, to the next level. They have weekly national competitions, and these kids are very talented. However, the show also got really dark.
In a shocking moment in Episode 8, 11-year-old Ashlan and her mother, Lisa, wanted to make it to the finals of the season-ending moments on the show. However, things got dark when Glo assigned Ashlan a dance on JonBenét Ramsey. Without telling the child that Ramsey was murdered as a child, she only said that she was “a glitz pageant queen.”
Glo then told Ashlan and her mother to research “everything” about Ramsey. As a reminder, JonBenét was six years old when someone murdered her by strangulation. The murder case is still a “cold case,” although it was considered a homicide. A grand jury wanted JonBenét’s parents indicted by the DA, but he felt there was insufficient evidence.
Lisa did what Glo told her to do and gave her 11-year-old daughter all the information about JonBenét’s murder investigation. “Oh my gosh, this is really not for me, but I’ll do anything for the win,” Ashlan said about the assignment. Ashlan then gave her all into the routine.
What Were The Reactions To The Dance Moms Moment?
Ashlan turned this into a performance piece since it was about the murder of JonBenét Ramsey. Glo told Ashlan to think of someone whose mother wants nothing more than for her to be the best. During her practice, other moms were mostly talking crap about the child, showing the truly despicable nature of many of these shows.
Sadly, Ashlan’s performance really didn’t seem like it was about JonBenét Ramsey at all, and people online started piling on the child (via Reddit).
- “How was the audience supposed to deduce that was about JonBenet Ramsey? It was weird”
- “It was extremely disturbing. They could’ve easily done a beauty pageant routine without exploiting Jonbenets murder.”
- “The dance didn’t even remotely tell the story of of JBR either. Not even in the slightest”
In the end, Ashlan got fourth place in the competition. Sadly, after Glo ripped her performance, the little girl said, “I kinda know how JonBenét felt. I’m never good enough.”
