Mickey Guyton Talks American Idol Experience

However, Mickey said there was an audition, but it didn’t work out. Andy quipped, “She didn’t make it, which we can’t believe.” That is when Mickey remarked, “I did not. They threw me away.”

When Mickey said that she was on the season where David Cook won American Idol, it caused Andy to throw some shade at the Season 7 winner. After remarking, “he’s having quite a career,” Andy apologized and said he was just “gassing up Mickey.”

After singing in the audition rounds, she only appeared briefly on television. She ended up cut before the live shows which featured the top 24. Season 7 took place in 2008, and the finals that season had the highest voting totals ever (97 million) as David Cook defeated David Archuleta.

Mickey Guyton Has Only Spoken To One American Idol Judge Since Then

Mickey Guyton said that she has spoken to one of the judges who passed on her during that season of American Idol. She said she had “heard from Mr. Randy Jackson and he has been very lovely to me.”

Mickey then said that she is pretty sure that neither Paula Abdul nor Simon Cowell even remembers her auditioning. With that said, both of those judges surely know about Mickey by now.

Seven years after her failed American Idol audition, Capitol released her first single, “Better Than You Left Me” and the song hit 34th on the US Country Airplay charts. It also earned an ACM nomination. Since that time, she has released one studio album, four EPs, and 10 singles.

Her debut album, Remember Her Name, hit 47th on the US Country charts, and her second album, House on Fire, will be released on September 27, 2024. Three of her four EPs also charted on the US Heatseekers charts. She also has three singles that hit the charts, including “Better Than You Left Me,” “Heartbreak Song,” and “Black Like Me.”

Her song with Dean Brody, “Boys,” hit number one on the Canadian country charts and was certified gold.
