When the Hallmark Channel approached Skyler Samuels to star in a reboot prequel of the hit mystery Aurora Teagarden, she admitted she was a “little nervous.” Speaking to US Magazine, she admitted some apprehension when taking on this iconic Candace Cameron Bure role. Most of all, she was not expecting this offer.
It was definitely a surprise role when they came to me with the Aurora reboot.
Next, the 30-year-old actress revealed her excitement. “I was excited because I love a challenge, but also was a little nervous because I understood that there was this long standing fan base.”
This Hallmark Mystery series was beloved by fans. Part of it is because those viewers watched 18 different episodes. Calling it a “deep bench,” Samuels understood that fans got to know this character and her pals.
However, Skyler understood the assignment. That is because this series takes place before Aurora becomes that super librarian sleuth. How did she approach this role?

When Skyler Samuels took on the lead role in Aurora Teagarden, she thought out how she would approach this role. Therefore, she revealed she realized she was getting to kind of reimagine Aurora in a way that didn’t feel like I was mimicking or copycatting” how Candace Cameron Bure played that role.
Firstly, she wanted to personalize it. “I wanted to have my own Aurora but one that paid homage to the Aurora that people knew and loved before.”
Yet, the My Dreams Of You star shared that she didn’t go about this without some discussion. She credits her director for this. “And I think our director, my dear friend, and work wife, Jessica Harmon, did such a great job kind of coming up with a tone that felt new and familiar at the same time.”
In the end, Skyler felt this was a good mashup of the old and new. “I think we’ve threaded that really nicely.”
