‘ER’ Star Noah Wyle Returning To Hospital Drama With ‘The Pitt’
Noah Wyle made his name in a hospital drama when he starred in ER as Dr. John Carter. Now, 15 years after leaving that popular drama series, Wyle is heading back into the world of hospital dramas. This time around, he isn’t joining an existing drama but a new one called The Pitt.
Here is what you need to know about the new TV show.
Noah Wyle Heading Back To Hospital Dramas With The Pitt
Noah Wyle was one of the top stars on ER, the hospital drama that ruined the airwaves before Grey’s Anatomy took its top spot. In that series, Wyle starred as John Carter, a third-year medical student who became an attending physician. He was one of the headliners until Season 11 when he left the series.
He did return occasionally and was in the series finale. However, he branched out after that and worked in other genres, including taking the lead role in The Librarian franchise and headlining the sci-fi series Falling Skies. Now, he is returning to a new medical drama called The Pitt, which is coming to Max.
Max describes the series as “a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh.”
ER producer R. Scott Gemmill will be an executive producer and showrunner. John Wells and Noah Wyle will also executive produce the series. There is no word on who else is starring in the series or when it will arrive on Max.
Noah Wyle Almost Returned For An ER Reboot
In some interesting trivia, Noah Wyle almost agreed to do an ER reboot series. The failure of that attempt led to his joining The Pitt. As a matter of fact, it was Wyle who came up with the idea for the ER reboot, which led to the Pitt storyline.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, Noah approached ER executive producer John Wells with an idea when he saw how poorly medical personnel were being treated. He said that many medical workers had sent him letters and emails saying that ER was why they got into medicine. Wyle asked if they could do an ER reboot on a smaller scale.
However, Michael Crichton’s estate wouldn’t work out a good enough deal with them on the rights issues, so they decided to create something different. The Pitt was born.
