Recently, Peacock revealed it was scrapping the highly anticipated Battlestar Galactica Reboot that has been promised for years. After hearing the news, fans are upset since they have patiently waited to see it come to fruition.

Peacock Disappoints With Battlestar Galactica Reboot

Sadly, Peacock announced it isn’t moving forward with the Battlestar Galactica Reboot as planned. Initially, the network told fans about the project in 2019 ahead of the launch of Peacock’s streaming platform. Furthermore, it was one of the biggest eye-catchers when promoting the service’s “originals” that would be available. However, it was never given the green light for episode development.

Epic Series Revisited

Originally, Battlestar Galactica aired on ABC for one season in 1978. It was followed up with SciFi Channel’s Galactica 1980 but that was shortlived. However, it became a hit in 2003 when it returned as a three-hour miniseries with Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell among the cast members. Since it was so successful, Syfy and Sky Television commissioned a new series with a dynamite cast that ran for four seasons and made fans fall in love with the show even more. Furthermore, it also had two TV movies at the end that concluded the series in 2009. Later, Syfy offered a prequel series, Caprica, that was one season in 2010.

Likewise, another prequel, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, was a 10-episode web series that had great potential of becoming a continuation. However, no network took on the project. Many people were excited to see the Peacock reboot returning with many fan-favorite characters.

Peacock Pulls Plug On Battlestar Galactica Reboot

While Derek Simonds was hired to be the new Battlestar Galactica showrunner and writer at the beginning of 2024, something must have happened to derail the project. During the epic journey of the show, it follows a small community of remaining humans after the robot Cylons takes over. As they zoom through space and often jump from location to location, they are searching in hopes of finding the mythical planet, “Earth.” But Cylons are getting smarter and smarter as they begin to hide as sleeper agents inside the fleet.

The reboot was Sam Esmail’s passion project to follow the 2003 miniseries and subsequent series. Sam was the executive producer along with Derek Simonds signing on to write and produce. Sadly, Peacock will no longer host the series. Likewise, some people are noticing a trend with Peacock. For instance, in May, NBC and Peacock pulled the plug on LA Fire & Rescue and Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge. But Sam isn’t giving in just yet. While the plan fell through with Peacock, he is still shopping around to find a new network to pick it up.

Some Fans Think Peacock’s Move Is Upsetting

After Peacock‘s announcement, some fans show their disappointment with scrapping Battlestar Galactica.

  • “Peacock is sucking lately in programming! First Real Housewives of Miami and now this!” someone says on X.
  • “I need to revisit this show. It was so good.”
  • “Bummer. Such a good show.”
  • “I want more Battlestar Galactica!”
  • Someone else simply posts a photo of Dwight from The Office screaming, “No!!!” Referencing Jim’s impersonation of Dwight stating, “Bears, Beets, Battlestar Galactica!”

Don’t Mess With The Pureness Of Battlestar Galactica

However, others wonder if the cancellation is a sign or a blessing in disguise. Since the 2003 retake on Battlestar Galactica was so impressive, some fans think it needs to stay unphased. Additionally, some believe it can only mess it up.

  • Someone says, “Not sure if I should be sad or happy.”
  • An X user says, “Don’t mess with perfection.”
  • While another echos, “Good. Universal needs to quit trying to destroy things that were great with stupid reboots.”
  • “GOOD. To think we need a reboot of that masterpiece is insane.”
  • “They probably couldn’t figure out a way to make the new cast diverse, gay and transgender meaning it would have been well watched without that wokeness and thus canceled.”

What do you think? Is it disappointing to you Peacock isn’t following through? Would you watch a reboot of Battlestar Galactica? Do you hope Sam Esmail will find another outlet for the project? Do you think a reboot will tarnish the “perfection” of the earlier series? Drop your comments below.
