‘American Idol’ Chooses Carrie Underwood As New Judge

American Idol appears to have chosen their new judge and it will be none other than Season 4 winner, Carrie Underwood. Many names were thrown around and now, Carrie is allegedly the one that will replace Katy Perry when the new season rolls around. Keep reading for more details.

American Idol Chooses Carrie Underwood As New Judge

When Katy Perry announced that she was leaving American Idol after last season, the chair was up for grabs. Some high-profile names were being thrown around to replace her though she said she would be returning. For now, Katy wants to focus on her music. Yet, the show must go on and someone needs to be able to compliment returning judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richel. Miley Cyrus, Meghan Trainor, and Jelly Roll were a few names that had been toyed with. Even alum Adam Lambert was put out there and Jordin Sparks said she would love to be a judge.

Now, it seems that American Idol kept with the idea of using a show alum as the new judge. According to TMZ, Carrie Underwood is finalizing her contract to replace Katy. It is also noted that Carrie will appear on Good Morning America on Friday, August 2nd. She will be performing for their summer concert series. There is some speculation that she could share the good news that day as Idol airs on ABC. This would be a coup for Idol as Carrie is a massive superstar.

Not only does she have a Las Vegas residency which has been extended but she also has sold 85 million albums. Plus, she is a multi-Grammy winner and is big in the fitness world. There is literally not a thing Carrie Underwood cannot do and she is extremely down to earth. Finally, she has been through the American Idol journey so she knows exactly what it takes to win. Though Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan have not confirmed their return, it is likely they will be back.

So, that is a fair assessment that there would be two country judges but they are both well respected and received. Therefore, it should be about what they bring to the table and less about the genre.
