After years of bumps in their romance, Eric Brady and Nicole Walker got their happily ever after on Days Of Our Lives this week. Greg Vaughan broke his silence in a social media post that seemed to indicate he wasn’t happy about the departure. Keep reading for all the details.

Eric & Nicole Leave Town

The love story between Eric Brady (then played by Jensen Ackles) and Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) first began back in 1998. Their decades-long romance took many twists and turns, including multiple breakups and reunions.

In 2012, Greg Vaughan took over the role of Eric Brady when he returned to Salem after a long absence. He had become a priest during his time away, which put the brakes on a reunion with Nicole.. at least for a little while.

Throughout their relationship, Nicole hoped to have a child with Eric someday. She has a child, Holly, with Daniel Jonas (played by Arianne Zucker’s real-life fiance, Shawn Christian.)

Nicole’s dream finally came true but she didn’t know it for months. She was the victim of a baby switch when Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) passed Nicole’s baby off as her own. Even once the baby switch was discovered, Nicole thought E.J. DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) was the father. But the real truth came out this month – Jude is the son of Nicole Walker and Eric Brady. The news prompted the couple to reunite and decide to leave town after E.J. threatened to tell Holly the truth about Daniel’s death.

Greg Vaughan Breaks Silence Over Days Of Our Lives Exit

Fans have known for months that Nicole Walker’s time in Salem was coming to an end. Arianne Zucker was fired from the soap in February amid a sexual harassment lawsuit against a former producer and the Corday Production company that produces the daytime soap.

However, it wasn’t confirmed that Greg Vaughan was leaving too until their exit storyline together became apparent. The actor took to his Instagram after his final episode aired to share his heartbreaking reaction.

He made it clear to his fans that leaving Days Of Our Lives was not his decision. “I didn’t leave by choice, I never had a choice,” he wrote in white letters on a simple black background. He included a broken heart emoji on the message.

Responds To Rumors Eric Will Be Back

This isn’t the first, or even second time, the actor was unceremoniously let go from the soap since his 2012 debut. Will Eric and Nicole finally get their happily ever after or is Eric heading back to Salem sooner rather than later?

Greg Vaughan shared a screenshot of Soap Opera Digest‘s Comings & Goings blurb. Under Goings, it listed the actor but his name was also under the Comings section.

The magazine claimed that a “reliable source” told them that the actor’s exit wasn’t permanent and Eric would be back in Salem eventually.

That seems to be news to Greg Vaughan, who added an “I don’t know” shoulder-shrugging emoji on the screenshot.
