‘Jeopardy!’ Yogesh Raut Explains Criticism Of Quiz Show
Yogesh Raut was a big winner on Jeopardy! However, many fans soured on him when he made comments disparaging the game show. Some fans called him a sore loser after his eventual elimination. Yet, he is standing behind his statements.
Here is what Raut said about his comments and why he still believes in what he said about the hit quiz show.
Yogesh Raut Blasts Jeopardy! As Not A Real Quiz Show
Yogesh Raut won the 2024 Tournament of Champions and he was the runner-up on Jeopardy! Masters. However, he made comments about the show on Facebook that made some fans sour on him. It almost turned him into a villain for the hardcore Jeopardy! fanbase.
Yogesh played three incredible games in 2023, racking up $96,403 and playing in the only perfect game in the 21st century. Many fans instantly disliked him because of his buzzer style, Q&A stories, and even his past accomplishments of beating James Holzhauer and Ken Jennings at trivia. Fans also felt he lacked sportsmanship.
The complaints about him caused Yogesh to lash out at those fans.
He made a series of Facebook posts (since deleted) and made national news when he wrote, “Jeopardy has not nor will ever be the Olympics of quizzing.” He called the show the “Holey Moley of Golf” and a “glorified reality show,”
“There will never be healthy quizzing culture in this country until we can learn to stop pretending Jeopardy! is important,” Yogesh finished.
Yogesh Raut Stands Behind His Jeopardy! Comments
After some time hearing the Jeopardy! fans’ complaints, Yogesh Raut did not back down. He is not only standing behind his comments, but he also says people are wrong about him being a sore loser in 2023. Raut added that the comments were not different from anything he had said before he ever appeared on Jeopardy!
“Almost everyone repeated comments I said after I lost, which provides the implication that my comments were a result of my loss,” Yogesh said (via The U.S. Sun). “Many people can testify I said most of those things in the exact same way before I knew I’d ever be in Jeopardy!… I am not a sore loser.”
Yogesh Raut defended his statements and said that when he is critical, it is based on a “segment of the fandom.” He said that he is someone who tells “uncomfortable truths” and pointed to his three Master’s degrees. Plus, his status as an “elite quizzer” demonstrates why he takes this so seriously.
“I have not taken back anything that I had to say before,” Yogesh said. He also said that producer Michael Davies called him a “character,” and he considers that a “ghastly thing” to say. Finally, he demanded an apology before he would agree to appear on Masters.
