Cheryl Burke Warns ‘DWTS’ Pros To Have A Back Up Plan
Cheryl Burke officially retired from Dancing With The Stars a few years ago. However, she still has plenty to say about the show and what goes on behind the scenes.
Over the past few months, Cheryl has warned contestants to come into the show without romantic attachments, among other things. Now, she wants her former colleagues to have a backup plan in place in case things don’t work out with the show.
Cheryl Burke Wants The Pro Dancers To Be Careful
In a recent episode of Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans, Cheryl Burke issued a stark warning to the other pro dancers. No matter how secure they think their jobs are, they should always look for a backup plan.
As other pros previously shared in interviews, Dancing With The Stars doesn’t rehire professional dancers until mere weeks before the season premiere. If they don’t secure a spot, they’re often out of luck.
“I will tell the pro dancers my advice. This will be the last thing before we have to stop. But my advice is to start creating a plan B for yourself. Because honestly, nothing lasts forever, especially Dancing With The Stars,” Cheryl warned the other pros on her podcast.
“We’re all getting older and, regardless, they already have a replacement in mind. And it’s just the way it is. You could still do your job, still do it at the best ability that you can and still be friendly with everyone, but don’t ever think that this too will not happen to you,” the former pro continued.

Former pro dancer Sharna Burgess previously expressed disappointment that DWTS continued without her, and didn’t even invite her back for the Len Goodman tribute. On top of that, plenty of guests on Cheryl’s podcasts including Lacey Schwimmer confirmed they wanted to continue with DWTS, but producers didn’t invite them back.
Artem Chigvintsev was also previously let go from the cast before returning in Season 29 — and ultimately winning the Mirrorball Trophy.
DWTS Pros Also Have An Image To Maintain
While Cheryl’s warning definitely makes sense, she also isn’t on the best terms with the producers at the moment. Both she and Sharna Burgess have spoken unfavorably about the show in recent years, which is likely why producers have distanced themselves from the dancers.
On the other hand, plenty of dancers like Witney Carson and Mark Ballas have stepped away from the show for one reason or another and were welcomed back with open arms. No dancer’s career on the show is certain, but it seems like many factors are within a dancer’s control.
