Those Bosch fans who have been waiting for news on the untitled Renée Ballard spinoff just got some big news. They have started production. Here is the latest update including when fans should expect to watch this new series on Amazon Prime.
Bosch Spinoff Untiled Renée Ballard Amazon Series Starts Production
On Monday, Bosch creator, Michael Connelly, shared on Instagram some exciting news. “Ballard is filming! With Maggie Q as Renée. I’m super excited! – MC.”
Later, Michael Connelly shared a photo of himself, along with some key components of the new Amazon Prime series. He wrote, “Mitzi Roberts, the real-life inspiration for Renée Ballard, the amazing Maggie Q who IS Renée Ballard, and our fabulous director Jet Wilkinson. Day one! Shooting on Venice Beach.”
Mitzi Roberts is a real-life LAPD detective. The first Michael Connelly novel she has appeared in The Late Show. Since then, Connelly has put this detective in five additional novels.
As for Jet Wilkinson, the Australian born-director has an impressive list of directorial accomplishments, including directing some new Bosch: Legacy episodes, as well as Avatar: The Last Airbender.

What Is The Story Of Bosch Spinoff Renée Ballard?
Renée Ballard has a unique story. After a tough youth where her father died when she was a teen, and her mother abandoned her, Mitzi Roberts was homeless until her grandmother stepped up to take care of her. She became a journalist, studying at the University of Hawaii. When she got out in the real world, she found herself more interested in solving crimes.
Soon, the LAPD hires her to run the new cold case division. However, it is poorly funded. In addition, it is an all-volunteer unit. Worst of all, this meager staff has a Herculean task. This is the biggest caseload in the city.
Connelly shared, “Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination. When she uncovers a larger conspiracy during her investigations, she’ll lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch, to navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life.”

Who Is Starring In Untitled Renée Ballard Amazon Series?
Besides Maggie Q, only Courtney Taylor has been announced. According to Deadline, she is portraying Samira Parker “a wary, impulsive tough woman with a burning desire for justice.” Samira was inspired to be a cop because of her grandfather, but the job is not the same now.
However, it is assumed that Titus Welliver will reprise his role as Harry Bosch. But, he has not yet been announced.
