Many things changed since Season 1 of Welcome to Plathville when the Plath family seemed anything but normal to most TLC viewers. Now that Season 6 arrived, the dynamics of Barry and Kim Plath’s family changed, so fans might be interested to know whether normalization starts happening.

Welcome to Plathville Revealed An Isolated Plath Family

The first season of the TLC show revealed the younger kids living on a farm in Georgia. Isolated from society and technology, only Ethan escaped when he married his wife, Olivia Meggs. Back then, Micah had no desire to rock the socks off thirsty fans as a model. Instead, he wanted to raise cows. Only Moriah seemed keen on escaping her cloistered world.

Welcome to Plathville Season 2 showed the start of the family fragmenting as Micah and Moriah reached for normality. However, in Season 6 of the TLC show, fans wonder if Moriah will ever know what “normal” means. Meanwhile, Welcome to Plathville fans might think that the most normal thing Kim Plath and Barry Plath ever did was get divorced.

Kim & Barry, Ethan & Olivia Plath Divorced

For a super-religious, it shocked TLC fans when Kim Plath left Barry Plath and wanted a divorce. That happened just when TLC viewers got a sinking feeling that they might have to watch Lydia Plath agonizing in a prayer closet for years to come. Next up, Ethan and Olivia also split. Is that where the road to normalcy began?

Welcome to Plathville fans might ask what “normal” is. Well, what is normal for some, isn’t normal for others. But many TLC viewers on social media scratched their heads over the Fundie lifestyle that Kim and Barry Plath chose for their family. In Season 6, critics believe that their choices damaged the kids, who might struggle for years to cope in the real world.

 Normalization For The Plath Family?

TLC reveals in Season 6 that the family gets together for a vacation and experiences being a blended family for the first time. Meanwhile, Micah is all about his girlfriend who he lives with before marriage! Ethan Plath tries the dating pool again, and even Lydia seems more vocal. On the surface of things, it certainly looks like normalization arrived after Kim and Barry Plath took a step back from their ultra-conservative religious beliefs.

On Reddit, Welcome to Plathville fans still question whether things will ever be normal for Kim Plath’s family.  An OP wrote:

Generational Curses…It’s rare that we see, in real time, where, how and/or who are responsible for creating generational curses. Barry & Kim Plath have, sadly, fostered DECADES of upcoming and unnecessary suffering. And we’re watching it unfold, in real time…

In the comments, other TLC fans had noticed that normalcy might still be a long way off for the kids. Here are some of their responses:

  • you have to wonder what kind of trauma happened in that house for Ethan and Moriah have no ability to understand the impact of their actions on other people or any empathy for others – so very trapped in their own pain…
  • they were completely sheltered from the outside world. If your entire upbringing consists of only your family how are you going to grow as a human being?
  • Not a single one of the adult Plath kids is well adjusted.
  • …so much trauma in that family. the adult children are SO messed up.

What are your thoughts about the various divorces and relationships? Do you agree that the TLC family moves away from fundamental religious beliefs and becomes more normal? Or, do they still have a long way to go? Sound off in the comments below, and come back here for all your Welcome to Plathville news.
