Epic Netflix Prince Documentary At Risk, Why?

Prince

Prince was one of those generational talents who transcended genre, style, and the idea of ever fitting into one single box. A new Netflix documentary on the music icon is at risk, based on the latest reports. What’s going on with this situation?

Prince Was A Once In A Lifetime Talent

As far as talent goes, Prince was the sort of icon that only comes around once in a lifetime. Despite being only five feet and two inches tall, Prince was larger than life in every other way that counted. In terms of creating music that defined an era, and music that still appeals to listeners to this day, Prince is right up there with the best of them.

There was nothing Prince could not do. Whether it was singing, playing various instruments, or oozing swagger as one of the biggest sex symbols to ever walk the Earth, Prince could do it all. Just like Michael Jackson, Prince’s music is timeless, and new generations continue to discover what an icon he still is to this day.

Fans Still Mourn, Years After Music Legend’s Passing

Prince tragically passed away on April 21, 2016. The music legend was 57 years old at the time of his passing. He lost his life due to an accidental drug overdose. Medical examiners concluded that the virtuoso musician and irreplaceable artist died of a Fentanyl drug overdose.

Of course, the rock star life is chock-full of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Still, with how much Prince meant to millions of people, his loss is one that is still felt today. He spent decades of his life making music, a craft he was dedicated to up until his untimely passing.

Netflix Prince Documentary At Risk, Why?

It turns out, there has been an epic Prince documentary that has been in development with Netflix. According to the latest estimates, the epic undertaking clocks in at a whopping nine hours. Originally, Prince’s estate signed off on a six-hour documentary.

However, by the time everything lined up with director Ezra Edelman’s final cut of the documentary, the time constraint was exceeded, totaling nine hours worth instead of the initial six that was agreed upon back in 2018.

Unfortunately, this is causing issues with the late singer’s estate. While Netflix is “confident” that some sort of compromise will come to pass, at least for now, things are at a standstill.

In addition to the length of the project, the singer’s estate has also called out inaccuracies in the finished product. So, it’ll be interesting to see if some sort of compromise can be reached, or if things will continue to be, essentially, a stalemate.
