Luke Bryan Shares Shocking Possible Judge Replacements
Katy Perry said farewell to American Idol in May after being a judge on the competition show for seven seasons. Her absence has many people wondering who will fill her shoes. Luke Bryan recently opened up about possible judge replacements and more shakeups on the show. Here is what he had to say.
Several Big Names In The Mix For American Idol Judge
It was announced in February that Katy Perry would be exiting American Idol. The singer-songwriter said that she wanted to focus on her music career and family. Since then, fans have been trying to figure out who her replacement will be.
In a recent interview with Billboard, fellow American Idol judge Luke Bryan weighed in on several possible candidates for the job. “I’ve said several names. I think P!nk has been in the talks, Miley Cyrus has been in the talks, Meghan Trainor has been in the talks,” he said.
While these are the people who are allegedly “in talks” about the position, P!nk has previously stated that she isn’t sure she’d be a good fit. “I don’t like hurting people’s feelings,” she said. “I like my day job.”
Meghan Trainor, on the other hand, is begging for the job to be hers. In an interview on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, the Me Too singer said, “I’ve done every interview in the world and said that that is my dream job, and I have emailed three awesome people who work in that world who don’t really have the final say … but I have begged for this job … it’s my favorite show — I’ve watched it since I was a child.”
Is Luke Bryan Returning For Season 23?
That being said, Luke Bryan is waiting to hear who the judges will be for Season 23 of American Idol. “It’s been something Disney [has] been really tight-lipped about with me and Lionel and Ryan,” he shared. “We currently haven’t heard what the story is on who’s coming back, and if Lionel and I are coming back.”
Luke, Lionel, and Katy all joined the show as judges during the 16th season. “Katy was really perfect for that job, and I think they’re just working real hard to find somebody that can really come in and do the job that Katy did,” Luke Bryan said of his former fellow judge.
For now, Luke and Lionel are just waiting to hear about what’s next for the competition show. Although multiple outlets have reached out to American Idol for comment, they have not yet revealed who the next judges will be. If they keep to the normal schedule though, fans can expect news late in the summer.
Season 22 wrapped up on May 19 with Abi Carter taking home the coveted title of American Idol.
