Meghan McCain Thinks Taylor Swift Is ‘Messing With’ Karma
Meghan McCain recently spoke about Taylor Swift on her podcast, wondering if the pop star is “messing” with karma. There has been speculation that Taylor has been using her influence in the music industry to block other artists from success. Meghan had a thing or two to say about that, keep reading to see why she thinks the star is playing a losing game.
Is Taylor Swift Blocking Other Artists From Billboard Charts?
On the Monday, June 24 episode of Meghan’s podcast “Citizen McCain,” the former co-host of The View spoke about a rumor swirling around on social media. People have claimed that Taylor Swift is intentionally blocking other pop stars from the number-one spot on the Billboard 200.
Taylor Swift released three new versions of her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, in the United Kingdom. This helped her land a record sixth week at No. 1 on the U.K. albums chart. The new versions of the album were marketed as a limited-time deal, which sent sales soaring. This seemed to prevent Charli XCX’s new album, Brat, from hitting the top spot. Brat debuted at No. 2, right underneath Taylor Swift.
This isn’t the first time that Taylor has been accused of using shady tactics to secure her number-one spot on the charts. Last month, there was speculation that she did the same thing to keep Billie Eilish’s new album from hitting No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
The topic of this Billboard usurping came up on Meghan McCain’s podcast on Monday. She couldn’t believe that Taylor Swift would stoop that low.
Meghan McCain Is Ready For A News Break From Taylor
“You are Taylor Swift, you are Elvis-level, one of the greatest of all time,” she said. “There are people coming up who could have their first No. 1 and you have the power to let them have No. 1 or not. I just don’t know how classy it is.”
Meghan continued, “I also think that, karmically, you’re messing with some stuff. I get that The Tortured Poets Department is doing this well … but I do think maybe more focus on music and art instead of, like, checks on a scoreboard.”
The former co-host on The View clarified that she isn’t a Taylor Swift hater, but she wonders if the public is getting tired of the pop star.
“She has, respectfully, nowhere else to go but down at this point,” Meghan said. “She has TIME magazine’s person of the year, this tour’s so big … I do think when she’s done touring, giving us a mild break from being in the news cycle as much as she is would be helpful for her, and us as commentators.”
