Shannen Doherty Gives ‘Very Real’ Chemo Update
Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Shannen Doherty is giving a “very real” chemotherapy update. She has been battling cancer since 2015 and though it had gone into remission for a short time, it soon returned. Now, she is sharing how she is doing and what is next for her. Keep reading for all of the details and how Shannen is feeling going forward.
Shannen Doherty Gives ‘Very Real’ Chemo Update
Fans have known Shannen Doherty as Brenda Walsh on Beverly Hills, 90210. She was part of the cool friend group but exited after Season 4. Off-camera, the actress was harder to handle but that did not stunt her career. She went on to be cast in the hit series Charmed alongside Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs. Now, she is doing her own podcast and has joined her former 90210 and Charmed co-stars at different conventions. The fans’ response is amazing as it is like reuniting with a long-lost but beloved friend.
Sadly, in 2015, Shannen was diagnosed with breast cancer but luckily went into remission two years later. Unfortunately, three years after that, in 2020, she revealed that she had stage 4 cancer and, by 2023, it had spread to both her brain and her bones. The cast of 90210 had already lost Luke Perry so they were becoming more united than ever. More so, Shannen is not giving up, and according to E! News, she is headed into another round of chemotherapy. She opened up on the June 24th episode of her Let’s Be Clear podcast about this time around.

Currently, Shannen Doherty is just really tired which makes a lot of sense. Yet, she also added this:
“It becomes very real in an incredibly different way because I have no idea how long I’m gonna be on the chemo for.”
She may be on this for three months or, if it does not work, change it after that time. The unpredictability is what is the scariest part of it all:
“That’s not something that I can predict. It’s not something my doctors can predict. And it’s scary.”
To add to the new cancer treatment, she is also in the midst of a divorce so it feels like she is diving headfirst with no gear.
New Outlook
Since launching her podcast, Shannen Doherty has also been on her former co-star and good friend, Tori Spelling’s misSPELLING podcast. They tried to figure out where things went wrong in their friendship but laughed at all the fun times that they had. As for Shannen, she seems to have a new lease on life per what she said back in March 2024:
“I feel like a lot of clutter is out of my life now and things are much more clear and focused. I know what I want for myself, and I know how I want to wake up every morning. I just see things in a different light because of the year and a half that was hell.”
Tori is on a similar path as she just filed for divorce from Dean McDermott and is on a mission to find her happy ending, as well.
