‘GH’ Johnny Wactor’s Brother Wants Justice For ‘Senseless’ Murder
General Hospital star Johnny Wactor died tragically when he was leaving work on May 25. After a bartending shift, he left and found three men trying to break into his car. While he didn’t approach them, one of the men shot and killed him anyway before running. Johnny’s brother, Grant Wactor, talked about his brother’s death on an episode of Today.
Here is what Grant had to say about Johnny’s tragic passing.
Johnny Wactor Brother Talks Senseless Death
Johnny Wactor was only 37 when a man trying to steal the catalytic converter from his car shot and killed him. A bouncer at the bar tried to help save the actor, but it was too late. On a recent Today episode, Johnny’s brother Grant talked about the loss and what he thinks will happen.
Grant said that he insists that the killers “be caught” after his brother’s death. Johnny was working at Level 8 as a bartender, had just gotten off work, and was walking to his car with a co-worker named Anita Joy. A security guard named Bryan Barkley tried to perform CPR after calling 911.
“They will be caught, they will be found, they will be tried. We’re going to be here for that,” Grant said about the killers. When it came to Barkley, who tried to save Johnny’s life, Grant said he hugged him and thanked him for being with Johnny at the end of his life.
There have been no arrests, and there have been marches calling for justice and for city leaders to increase public safety.
“We don’t want another grieving mother. Obviously, I don’t want more grieving brothers. There shouldn’t have to be marches for stuff like this,” Grant said. He then thanked everybody for their thoughts and concern and said they were all hurting but were trying to stay busy.
General Hospital Cast Remember Johnny Wactor
Grant said that this entire incident was a “senseless act of violence,” and something no one expected ever to happen. Johnny would have turned 38 in August. A GoFundMe page set up to help his family with funeral and travel expenses has now reached over $133,000 in donations.
Several of Johnny’s General Hospital co-stars have expressed their condolences, shared the GoFundMe with their fans, and contributed their parts. This includes Sofia Mattsson, the actress who played his wife on General Hospital.
“My heart is so utterly broken… Johnny was the absolute best. So genuine. So caring. Incredibly hard working and humble,” Sofia shared about his death. Other General Hospital stars who honored Johnny include Briana Lane (Brook Lynn Quartermaine), Kelly Thiebaud (Britt Westbourne), Krisen Storms (Maxie Jones), and Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos).
