What Happened To ‘Fixer Upper’ Cottonland Castle After Revamp?
Fixer Upper‘s favorite couple, Chip and Joanna Gaines are always staying busy. Undeniably, the extra-productive power couple can accomplish almost anything they put their minds to. Lately, they are showing off a new version of their popular show, but what happened with Fixer Upper: The Castle?
Fixer Upper: The Lakehouse
Currently, Chip and Joanna Gaines have a new special Fixer Upper: The Lakehouse that had its premiere on June 2 on HGTV. While it’s no castle, it promises to be a “showstopping” event according to Joanna. Fixer Upper fans got to know Chip and Joanna during their original show which had five seasons showing off seventy-nine episodes of renovation and fun. In 2022, they took on a massive project by renovating a castle in The Castle Special. Then, in 2023, fans got to see them in action while revamping The Hotel afterward. But they also have several other new series that are showing their love for fun and games.
What Happened To Fixer Upper Cottonland Castle After The Revamp?
But what happened to The Castle after the big revamp? During the special, Chip and Joanna Gaines took on a huge project by purchasing and restoring Cottonland Castle. Notably, it is a historic landmark built in 1913 in Waco, Texas. However, the original owners suffered financial hardship and were unable to complete the castle as intended. But, it was the perfect “fairytale” home for the Gaines to take on. Undeniably, it is beautiful with 4,300 square feet of living space, four bedrooms, and a pool. Not only that, it is extremely appealing for this family who has five kiddos. Unmistakably, they need lots of space while raising their kids: Drake, 19, Ella, 17, Duke, 16, Emmie, 14, and Crew, 5. And who wouldn’t want to have the adventure of running through a castle? However, they don’t currently live in Cottonland but instead have a beautiful farmhouse also located in Waco.
Fixer Upper: The Castle‘s Overhaul
While Chip and Joanna Gaines purchased the property for $400,000, after the renovation, their asking price is much higher. Reportedly, they completed restoration in January 2023. Joanna stated on her blog, “During the year-long renovation process, we kept coming back to the building’s roots, studying the German castle that inspired its original design and trying to find ways to either restore or replicate its stunning details—its crown molding, wood paneling, and narrow-plank floors.”
However, she wanted it to feel like a home. She adds, “At the same time, we wanted to create an updated home that could, one day, serve a family well and feel current.” In June 2023, the Fixer Upper stars had an auction for the castle with a listing price of $2.9 million pre-auction, per the Waco Tribune-Herald.
The Castle Is Still Up For Grabs
Although the stunning estate was open for auction, the Fixer Upper stars, Chip and Joanna Gaines opted not to sell at the time. However, they still intend for Cottonland Castle to be the residence for “someone looking to live in Waco’s beautiful Castle Heights neighborhood.” In the meantime, fans can tour the castle through guided walking tours until the happy couple decides to sell.
