‘Chicago Fire’ Star Talks Leaving The Series

The Chicago Fire season finale saw the team say goodbye to a popular character. While the character won’t be leaving the show for good, it is time for him to step down as a main cast member for the first time since the show originally premiered. Now, Eamonn Walker has spoken up about his time on the series and why he had to leave.

Here is what Eamonn Walker said about the Chicago Fire season finale and Boden moving on.

Eamonn Walker On Leaving Main Chicago Fire Cast

Eamonn Walker has played Chief Wallace Boden since the first season of Chicago Fire. He has been a hard-nosed, but fair fire chief for the station. However, like all good things, it had to come to an end. The good news is that Boden left his position on his own volition.

Walker is not leaving Chicago Fire for good but is instead stepping down as a cast regular. Chief Boden gave up his position after he put his name in for the position of the Chicago Fire Department’s Deputy Commissioner. Boden earned the position and now he will move on to oversee several departments, meaning someone else will step into his job.

Walker will remain part of the Chicago Fire cast but in a smaller role as a recurring character on the show. Once again, this was his choice as he wanted to spend more time on other things and devote less time to the television series that has dominated his life for the last 12 years.

Chicago Fire released an Instagram video that showed Walker saying goodbye to his co-stars — or more accurately, he said “See you soon.”

Eamonn Walker Bids Farewell To Cast & Crew

The video started with the Chicago Fire director saying, “That’s a wrap,” and everyone clapping and cheering after the work was done. That led to Eamonn Walker getting his chance to say goodbye as a regular cast member.

The director went over and immediately hugged Walker, saying “I love you, bro.” Then, the video cut to Walker, looking emotional as he looked at everyone still clapping for him. He then said:

“I just want to say: Best cast. Best crew. Best production. Best job of my life. Thank you.”

The cast and crew said “Thank you” in return and started cheering him again. It was an emotional episode, as the crew said goodbye to Boden as well.

Are you going to miss Boden as a regular character on Chicago Fire? More so, are you happy he will still be around in a smaller capacity? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
