Nancy Hulkower Credits Daisy Kent For Accepting Chronic Illness
Golden Bachelor alum Nancy Hulkower is giving credit to Daisy Kent for her learning to accept her chronic illness. Why would this fan favorite be thanking Daisy Kent for this? Keep reading to find out more.
Nancy Hulkower Credits Daisy Kent For Helping Her Be Okay With Illness
Nancy Hulkower recently appeared on the Bachelor Happy Hour: Golden Hour podcast with besties Susan Noles and Kathy Swarts. She opened up to them about how Bachelor runner-up Daisy Kent helped her be more accepting of her chronic illness.
Nancy did not talk about her illness on the show and rarely talked about it at all. However, seeing Daisy Kent open up about her struggles with Lyme disease and losing her hearing along with getting Cochlear implants, gave her the courage to talk about her own issues.
Nancy said, “A little-known fact is that I have diabetes. I have type 1 diabetes and I take insulin. The producers and people on the show knew it, but I didn’t really put it out there on the show. I have to say that Daisy from Joey’s season of The Bachelor talked about her cochlear implant and it certainly gave me the impetus to be more open about diabetes.”
Why Did She Not Talk About Her Illness?
Nancy Hulkower revealed that she had a very bad dating experience that made her skeptical about discussing her diabetes diagnosis. However, seeing Daisy Kent open up gave her more courage to do so herself. While on a date she revealed having diabetes and the man told her he was not interested in dating anyone with chronic health issues. Those comments stayed with her.
Seeing Daisy be so vulnerable and open changed her entire perspective on having diabetes and talking about it. She still lives a normal life and manages her diabetes well. She can’t do anything about having the disease so she just manages it the best way she can.
Nancy also said, “Daisy manages her cochlear implant and what goes along with that. I think it’s important to know that things happen. That’s life. You can’t do anything about it. All you can do is manage what you have, and that doesn’t mean you have to hide or stop.”
She continued to say it was truly Daisy who gave her the courage to put it out there. She even decided to wear an insulin pump to help her manage it all even better. Nancy credits Daisy for all of this.
