Former Dancing With The Stars pro Cheryl Burke retired at the end of Season 31 after a total of 26 seasons on the show. She won two Mirrorball Trophies during her run and made it to the finale several times.

After leaving the series, Cheryl launched a podcast where she dishes on behind-the-scenes drama and invites former competitors to share their own experiences. Needless to say, it’s not wildly popular with people still involved with DWTS.

Now, Cheryl claims that the show didn’t even want to give her a proper goodbye after 26 seasons. Read on to see what she said.

Cheryl Burke Wasn’t Feeling The Love When She Retired

Many long-time DWTS fans felt a wide range of emotions when Cheryl Burke officially retired at the end of Season 31. It was also the last season for Len Goodman, who died a few months later.

The farewell episode for Len and Cheryl was incredibly emotional. But according to the pro dancer, she almost didn’t get a proper send-off at all.

In a new episode of her podcast, Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans, Cheryl admitted that she left Dancing With The Stars voluntarily. However, she felt saddened when no one seemed to care about her retirement. She claimed the show didn’t even want to give her a goodbye performance.

“It was a fight,” the 39-year-old confessed. “It wasn’t just given to me, like ‘Oh, okay, we’re going to do a beautiful send-off. … my team had to really put their foot down and basically put everything into perspective for them. Like, ‘Wow, you don’t want to give her anything, not even a little goodbye?’”

“What’s interesting leading up to it, it was almost like I didn’t even want to do it anymore because I can tell that it wasn’t necessarily their idea,” Cheryl continued.

The Dancer Wants To Put This Chapter Behind Her

As the episode came to a close, the dancer claimed she wouldn’t speak about the subject any longer. However, she will make an exception to ask podcast guests about their experiences on the show. She has closure now and doesn’t want to keep rehashing old issues.

“I have no ill will towards anyone, really, but I could still be really hurt and disappointed that I’ve lost friendships along the way, and that is called grieving,” she concluded. “And everyone grieves differently, and for me, because a lot of these people I’ve known for almost two decades, it’s going to take time to really put that to rest.”

And it certainly could take some time. In previous episodes, Cheryl confessed guests sometimes pull out at the last second. It seems many don’t want to take part in the drama.
