‘American Idol’ Katy Perry Slams Luke Bryan For Brutal Critique?
American Idol judge Katy Perry recently slammed fellow judge Luke Bryan over his comments to a contestant. What did Bryan say that got under Katy’s skin?
American Idol: More Hopefuls Sent Home
As veteran American Idol fans know, no matter how much viewers love certain contestants, there can only be one winner when it’s all said and done. Unfortunately, that means, every week, more fan-favorites will be packing their bags and going home.
This is especially true as this season of American Idol is getting down to the nitty-gritty. In the most recent episode alone, more singers were cut from the competition. When it gets to this stage, the slightest mistake can be the difference between going home or sticking around. So, the margin for error is non-existent.
Luke Bryan Gives Mia Matthews Harsh Critique
The pressure was on for American Idol performers. The top 10 would become a top 8, with two people leaving the show. Mia Matthews has become a fan favorite this season with her authentic take on country music. She even brought tears to Jelly Roll’s eyes with her emotional rendition of Daddy’s Hands.
After opening the show with a cover of Shania Twain’s song No One Needs to Know, Luke Bryan had some brutally honest comments. He called Matthews out for messing up the words to the classic tune.
After comparing Mia Matthews to Kelsea Ballerini, Luke Bryan dropped the hammer when speaking of her performance, adding: “And I know you may have forgotten the words a couple of times but…”
American Idol: Katy Perry Defends Matthews After Bryan Comments
As American Idol fans saw, before Luke Bryan could finish his sentence, Katy Perry interjected, saying: “Nobody needed to know that!” Perry roasted Bryan some more, adding: “She was acting so well. You blew her spot up!”
Forgetting the lyrics to a song happens to the best of them, even seasoned performers with years of experience. Unfortunately for Mia, after a solid string of performances to get to this point in the competition, she made the error as things get closer and closer to the finish line.
Despite Perry coming to her defense, there was also some truth to what the Dark Horse singer predicted of Mia’s fate. Her lyrical fumble ultimately sent her home, as the top 10 contestants officially dwindled down to a top 8 remaining in the competition.
Mia Matthews may certainly still have a bright future in the country music industry moving forward. For now, though, her American Idol journey is over.
