Shocking Truth About Gerry Turner & Theresa Nist Quickie Divorce?
Bachelor Nation fans are still trying to understand Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s quickie divorce. A new report sheds more light on the possible cause. Keep reading for the latest on the shocking split.
Golden Bachelor Divorce Could Hurt Spinoff
The ratings success of The Golden Bachelor likely played a part in ABC going ahead with a female-driven Golden Bachelorette. The network confirmed in February that the spinoff will air this fall.
But then Golden couple Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist abruptly announced they were divorcing after just three months of marriage. Millions tuned in to watch them tie the knot in a televised special in January 2024.
But three months later, the couple threw in the towel after disagreeing on where to live. ABC is still going ahead with The Golden Bachelorette, but fans may not tune in after becoming disillusioned with the franchise.
Season 1 of The Golden Bachelorette could be its first and last season. ABC has yet to renew Golden Bachelor for a second season.
Shocking Truth About Gerry Turner & Theresa Nist Quickie Divorce?
Shortly after their engagement, Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner publicly shared plans to relocate together. They had decided on South Carolina as their destination. However, as time went on, the move never happened. Instead, fans assumed Theresa Nist would stay in New Jersey and her new husband would leave his Indiana home and join her.
But just weeks before their divorce announcement, Theresa and Gerry revealed on a podcast that they don’t live together. They blamed the distance for their divorce, but most fans believe there was something else. Maybe money problems or Theresa’s job.
But a shocking new report claims the issue went much deeper. An anonymous source reportedly told podcaster Kate Casey that Theresa was too “uppity” for Gerry Turner.
“He’s saying he wanted the divorce because she was too ‘uppity for him’ and used the example of she wouldn’t pump her own gas and hated where he lived,” the podcaster claimed.
It’s important to note that residents of New Jersey aren’t legally allowed to pump their own gas.
What Fans Think
Will Bachelor Nation fans ever be satisfied with any explanation for the sudden split? That seems unlikely. Fans took to Reddit to share their own speculations about what led to Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner’s surprising split:
- I’m not blaming her or defending fake ass Gerry, but he is retired. I wouldn’t want to sit around all day alone at home while she was at work.
- I also think that u don’t quit your career until after you buy the new place or at least commit. He wanted her to quit and travel on HER dime, IMHO. It’s the dynamics, not the timeframe.
- He likes the attention too much. I think she was genuine.
- Maybe she thought she could relocate her job or work less but wasn’t fully ready to retire. Also, both of them said they looked at homes in New Jersey too. I think Teresa dumped him and realized he wasn’t who she thought he was. He seems like a controlling type that would be difficult to deal with.
- Theresa strikes me as a sweet, lovely, intelligent workhorse. She likes making money and likes the finer things in life. At her heart, she’s a good woman. She may have relocated for the right guy. Not him.
- I think it’s a game show and this franchise is making money so it won’t stop. I saw the episode when his eyes lit up when Theresa told him about her career. It doesn’t take a genius to see he got very interested at that very moment.

I think Theresa is genuine and he is disingenuous
I believe Theresa is a sweet lady. I liked her from the start and was glad she was given the final rose. There is no way she was uppity. These so called sources are just spreading gossip/lies. She seemed to want to make things work and maybe he did too however in the end they just couldn’t and decided to end it rather than being unhappy and faking it for the public. However only they know what really caused the split and people should just leave them be and move on.
I believe that he chose Theresa at the last minute. He told Leslie that he was choosing her – told her in a way that there was no doubt in her mind. He probably meant it at the time. But it seems he changed his mind during his date with Theresa. (Maybe in the moment that people describe as his eyes “lighting up”?)
Whatever happened, the premise is absurd, that someone can start with 20 or 30 potential partners, and in a very short period of time can narrow that down and can get to know some of them well enough to make a life-changing choice. It is made even more absurd when it is older people who have had decades to establish their life in a place, a community, a family, a career – and to think that one of them (or both?) will start all that over again for someone they just met. And in order for it to be remotely possible that this couple would last, they should have taken LOTS more time to get to know each other before getting married. This was really predictable. We just don’t know what happened, to make the split so quick.
