Al Roker Laughs At The Fate Of ‘Golden Bachelor’ Couple
When he learned of the Golden Bachelor divorce, Al Roker didn’t hold back his criticism of the couple. As Carson Daly discussed Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s split, the Today veteran laughed and had some tough words for the pair. Continue reading to see what he had to say, plus details about the divorce announcement.
‘Thanks, Uncle Al’ For the Tough Love
On Friday, April 12, shortly after the news broke, Carson Daly shared that the Golden Bachelor couple announced their divorce. “This is breaking news. The Golden Bachelor — the first couple from The Bachelor’s latest franchise — have just announced they have split,” Daly said.
“What? Who would have seen that coming?” Al Roker laughed, “Unbelievable!”
Carson Daly continued his report and shared that the “love story” has already come to an end. Roker chimed in again saying that their three-month marriage was rather “quick.”
“It just goes to show that old people could be just as stupid,” the beloved NBC weatherman added.
“Well, you said it, Al,” Carson Daly replied. The studio was filled with laughter at this point. “So poignant on the heels of a breakup. Thanks, Uncle Al.”
No Love Lost Between The Golden Bachelor Couple
Al Roker isn’t the only person who has spoken out about the septuagenarian couple. Body language experts have come forward to say that Gerry Turner was never fully committed to Theresa Nist.
However, not everyone was so cynical. Fellow Golden Bachelor stars Susan Noles and Kathy Swarts shared their thoughts on the split, which they agreed was heartbreaking. At the end of the day, they hope that the divorce announcement doesn’t stop other older individuals from trying to find love. After all, Noles pointed out, Gerry and Theresa did find love on the show, it just didn’t last.
The Golden Bachelor couple announced their split officially on Good Morning America on Friday. While most people would think that lost love would be the reason for the divorce, Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist insist that isn’t the case.
Three months after getting hitched, the pair were still living apart. The long-distance relationship really weighed heavily on them, ultimately leading to their decision to get a divorce.
Previously, the couple spoke about moving to Charleston, South Carolina together. “We looked at home after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision,” Nist shared during their joint interview.
She continued, saying that they were both “100 percent committed” to making the relationship work, but it just wasn’t in the cards.
“The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations, it’s been how dedicated both of us our to our families,” Gerry Turner said. “So we look at these conversations and we both think it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart.”
At the end of the day, there is no love lost between the estranged husband and wife. They made it clear that they still love each other, but they just couldn’t come to terms with a living arrangement.
Now that the couple has split, many people are wondering if Theresa Nist will be the new Golden Bachelorette. There still hasn’t been any confirmation on who will appear in the role, but the show is slated to premiere this fall.
