Kevin Bacon Reveals He Will Attend Prom At Famous High School
Kevin Bacon just revealed he will be going to a high school prom this year. The prom will not be at an ordinary high school. This high school is the one the talented actor helped to make famous about 40 years ago.
Payson High School Is The Lucky High School
Payson High School has been one lucky high school for almost half a century. This is the school where Kevin Bacon will be attending their prom later this year. The high school extended the invitation to their prom and the famous movie star gladly accepted.
“Thank you, thank you, I’m gonna come,” Kevin Bacon stated. “I gotta come!”
Many are probably wondering why Payson High School in Payson, Utah would be inviting Kevin Bacon to their prom. The answer is simple. Kevin Bacon made the high school famous. It was in Payson, Utah, at this very high school, where he filmed Footloose. The movie was released in February of 1984. Payson High School has been famous ever since.
“I have been so impressed with everything that’s been going on there with this crazy idea to get me to come back,” Kevin Bacon explained. “I don’t need to say it, but the movie and Payson High School was a big part of my life. I’ve been amazed at the work all of you have been putting into this with the musical and the flash mobs and the re-creations.”
The Real Story Behind Footloose
Footloose is based on a true story. However, that true story did not happen at Payson High School. Instead, that true story actually happened in Elmore City, Oklahoma. Just like in the movie, Elmore City did not allow dancing within the city limits. The city’s ban on dancing dates back to 1898 wild west days in Indian Territory, seeing Oklahoma was not even state when the law was made.
The ban on dancing was finally lifted in 1979. Unlike in the Kevin Bacon movie, it was not a new student who made dancing a their prom possible. Instead, it was frustrated high school students who brought about the law being abolished. After not being able to a prom, the students of Elmore High School banded together. Students of Elmore High School can now have a proper prom, dancing is now legal.
“I think that it was a great gift to be part of that movie,” Kevin Bacon stated in a 2022 interview. “I certainly took it very seriously when I was doing it and I love that people will still come up and say that they just showed it to their kids.”
Kevin Bacon And The Six-Degrees Organization
Kevin Bacon is thrilled to know Payson High School will be helping with his charity organization, Six Degrees. The actor started this organization in 2007. The focus of Six Degrees is to help “enrich local communities.”
“It hasn’t gone unnoticed by me,” Kevin Bacon admitted. “Not to mention the fact that you tied in…our foundation, and are trying to figure out ways to give back to your community. It’s really inspirational.”
