Netflix fans are reportedly scared that the streamer is planning to axe a favorite comedy series. Although Season 3 of the 90s girl drama just dropped last week, people are worried that it won’t be renewed for Season 4. Girls5Eva was dropped by Peacock before it moved to Netflix and now it seems like the streaming service might be getting ready to drop it too. Keep reading to see why fans think it may be the next popular series to get the axe and what the future of the show might be.

Girls5Eva Is Back For Season 3 On Netflix

Girls5Eva is a comedic drama series that follows a fictitious 90s girl’s band. One of their songs gets sampled by a modern-day rapper and they reunite as a result.

The series stars Sara Bareilles, Busy Philipps, Paula Pell, Ashley Park, Renee Elise Goldsberry, and Erika Henningsen. Tina Fey is the producer behind the comedy series.

The star-studded series initially aired on Peacock for its first two seasons before moving to Netflix. It first premiered at the height of the pandemic in 2021. Peacock canceled Girls5Eva after just two seasons, but luckily for fans, it was picked up for Season 3 by Netflix. Seasons 1 and 2 are also available to stream on the platform.

At the time Meredith Scardino spoke about the show moving platforms. She said that it “felt like a fever dream” because everything happened so fast.

“And in a short burst because it was all pre-written. Everyone was just so grateful to be there, because we like almost lost it, and so we were all just grateful to be reunited,” she said. “I think it did feel like art imitating life with the comeback.”

Fans Are Scared The Series Will Get Canceled Again

The move to Netflix came with several changes for the showrunners though. They were asked to reduce the program’s runtime and also cut the number of episodes down. This season of Girls5Eva premiered on the streaming service on March 14. It only had six episodes, compared to the last two season’s eight.

Due to these changes, fans are wondering if Netflix is planning to cut the series after producing just one season.

“Please, @netflix, renew #Girls5Eva for season 4! We watched episode 1 of season 3 tonight and I haven’t laughed this much since season 2 of the show came out. (Want to binge, but we’re going to savor it),” one fan wrote on X.

Another fan questioned the lack of marketing behind Girls5Eva and wondered if that was a hint that the show’s future was nonexistent with the streamer. “Baffling to me that netflix has done basically no promotion for the new season of #girls5eva. especially, considering it’s 30 rock pedigree, and how much love that show has been getting on social media,” they wrote on social media. “You acquired the funniest show on streaming from peacock! PUSH THAT S**T!”

“I just watched season 3 of #Girls5Eva. They better not cancel it again,” a third fan chimed in, while another wrote, “Netflix better not cancel these camp queens.”
