‘Teen Mom’ Cory Wharton Daughter Needs 3rd Open Heart Surgery
Teen Mom star Cory Wharton and his girlfriend, Taylor Selfridge, are preparing for their daughter to undergo her third open heart surgery. This will be the last open heart surgery Maya has to have to correct a heart condition she was born with. Although Maya is not yet two years old, she has already had two successful open-heart surgeries. Now the entire family is emotionally preparing for the baby to undergo her last procedure. Here is everything that is known about Maya’s condition.
Cory Wharton Opens Up About Maya’s Health Condition
Taylor Selfridge and Cory Wharton met on MTV’s Ex On the Beach. The pair dated on and off for a while before they had their first daughter together, Mila, in 2020. Then, two years ago, the couple welcomed Maya into the world.
In Teen Mom Family Reunion Season 3, Cory and Taylor talk about the challenges that come along with having a child that has significant health needs. Maya was diagnosed with tricuspid atresia at birth. This condition causes the tricuspid valve to fail to develop properly, which impedes blood flow to her lungs. Without the right blood flow to her lungs, Maya struggled to breathe. She had her first open heart surgery at six days old.

At just 10 days old, Maya was admitted into the newborn intensive care unit (NICU). During her 15-day stay in the NICU, Cory Wharton’s daughter underwent three catheterization procedures to try and correct the problem. She had her second open heart surgery six months later.
“I just can’t wait for her heart to be fixed,” Cory shared on Instagram.
Baby Maya Has An Amazing Support System
Admittedly, the couple says that they have put their relationship “on the back burner” while they focus on Maya’s needs. Cory has also opened up about his emotions regarding Maya’s health. He said that he has “trauma” and that dealing with her health issues is still “heavy.”
That being said, Maya has an amazing support system behind her leading up to her third and final heart surgery. Taylor Selfridge recently spoke about the milestones Maya needs to meet to be able to have this life-changing surgery. She is hopeful that Maya will meet the height and weight requirements necessary to move forward.

Fans have shown an outpouring of love for the little girl online and applaud her parents for being so strong through it all. “Sending your family so many prayers,” one person commented, while another said, “You got this! You’re a warrior princess! Prayers up for Maya!”
