Erika Girardi Contemplated Suicide Amid Personal Turmoil
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika Girardi reveals that she often contemplated suicide during her recent personal struggles.
On March 6, Erika Jayne: Bet It All on Blonde premiered on Bravo. Girardi, who performs under the stage name Erika Jayne, has often been candid about her journey as a pop singer. The two-hour docuseries chronicles Girardi’s struggles on the road to the opening night of her Las Vegas residency. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch me rebuild, reimagine, rebirth, and to do it in the place that I love the most, which is on stage,” she told Deadline.
But Girardi hasn’t always been optimistic about her own future. In a touching and deeply reflective moment in Erika Jayne: Bet It All on Blonde, Girardi recalls the darkest moment in her life.
The Reason Why Erika Girardi Contemplated Suicide
For Girardi, being caught up in the costly 2018 Lion Air plane crash scandal took its toll on her mental well-being. Her estranged husband, Tom Girardi, is facing over a dozen charges relating to the theft of his client’s funds. With public perception viewing her as a willing accomplice, Erika Girardi says often contemplated suicide. “There was nothing hopeful on the horizon for years. That’s when you’re like, ‘Well, why am I here?'” she said. “I thought about killing myself many times. I would talk to my son, I was like, ‘I don’t want to do this, I don’t want to be here.'”
Luckily for Girardi, her son Tommy refused to allow his mother to throw in the towel. “He was like, ‘Here’s what you’re going to do. You’re gonna dig your heels in and you’re going to fight like a motherf***** and you’re going to show everyone that they were wrong and you were right and then we can have this conversation after that,'” she revealed. “‘But until then, you’re going to fight.'”
A Look Behind The Turmoil
Reflecting on her husband’s scandal, Girardi questioned her RHOBH co-stars empathy. “I don’t think those girls really cared about how I felt. Grieving a marriage and a person you were married to and the idea of that person,” she said during Erika Jayne: Bet It All on Blonde. “They care about their own skin. There was a whole lot of judgment and accusations, repeatedly, over and over again. I had to defend myself every day.”
Despite the feeling of isolation, Girardi refuses to hold on to any bitterness. In an interview with People, she relished the chance to move on. “I could continue to be miserable and angry for the rest of my life, but they’re going on about their lives and having a great time. And that’s really how you have to look at it,” she said. “These people are moving on, and I have to too. It’s not fair to hold them in a place of the past either. If I ask them to move forward, I expect myself to move forward too in how I see these people.”
