Wendy Williams Doc Gives ‘Dark’ Look Inside Her Home Life
Viewers have been shocked by the Lifetime documentary Where Is Wendy Williams? since its release. The number of raw, emotional scenes that play out in the docuseries has fans and friends concerned about the former daytime talk show host’s mental health. An insider has opened up about what it was like to be present for Wendy’s “descent into madness.” Keep reading to see what they revealed about the experience.
Wendy’s Deteriorating Condition Captured On Camera
One scene, in particular, seems to have stuck with many fans. As Wendy Williams lies in bed, she is confronted by her manager, Will Selby. Will holds up a bottle of vodka that appears to be half gone and asks her if she drank all of that vodka that day. A defeated-sounding Wendy admits that, yes, she had. “No,” she says to the cameraperson later. “We all drink, why can’t I?”
However, that dark moment is just one among many the people filming the docuseries experienced while working with Wendy Williams on the project. An insider told In Touch Weekly, “You see her health deteriorating, but also her descent into what seems like madness. It’s painful to watch. Very dark things happened in that home.”
By the end of the documentary, viewers see Wendy’s New York apartment completely emptied out. She was taken to an undisclosed facility to get the care that she so desperately needed. Despite getting a chance at a fresh start, the insider said, “the images of what happened there won’t soon be forgotten.”
Should The Wendy Williams Doc Have Been Released?
Initially, the documentary and producers set out to film Wendy Williams’ comeback to the entertainment industry after losing her show in 2022. There was talk of a podcast and potentially a new talk show. None of that was to come to fruition though. Instead, what the filmmakers captured was Wendy’s “downward spiral,” the insider told In Touch.
Two days prior to the Lifetime docuseries being released, Wendy’s medical care team shared her official diagnosis with the world. The star was diagnosed with progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. What viewers see in the documentary is how these two medical conditions, in addition to Wendy’s alcohol addiction, contribute to the unraveling of the star’s life.
Wendy Williams has always been an open book when it comes to her struggles with her health. She has spoken out about her battle with Graves’ disease and lymphedema. Given the nature of her new diagnosis, many people have questioned whether or not she truly understood what was going on when the documentary was being filmed. Several stars who were close to Wendy questioned her guardian and her family for signing off on the project.
Just before Where Is Wendy Williams? debuted on Lifetime, her financial guardian petitioned the courts to halt the release of the series. Lifetime moved forward with the premiere anyway.
