In the second episode of the latest season, Luke Bryan, Lionel Ritchie and Katy Perry listened to the granddaughter of the late Loretta Lynn audition. Emmy Russell is more than Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter. She is the daughter of Phillip and Patsy Russell. Patsy is the daughter of Lynn. She is also half of the singing duet, The Lynns. Her twin sister, Peggy Lynn, was the other half of the duo. The two performed together in the late 1990s.

The American Idol hopeful is also the great-niece to country music superstar Crystal Gayle. Gayle is Loretta Lynn’s younger sister. The “Don’t Make My Brown Eyes Blue” singer had several country hits as well as many country music awards in the 1970s and 1980s.

The American Idol  Hopeful Was A Missionary

In her very early 20s, Emmy Russell spent time as a Christian missionary. She was able to travel the world during this time. During this time, she contemplated her future as a singer.

In her song, “Skinny,” Russell mentions her time as missionary. “Skinny” is the name of the song she sang for her American Idol audition.

The American Idol Audition Song Was Previously Released

Emmy Russell wrote “Skinny.” It had been released on several musical platforms before she sang it for the American Idol judges. It was also released on TikTok in August of last year. She also released a video for the song.

Russell has another song, “Break-Up Song,” on Spotify. She had 21,000 monthly listeners. That number is based on the listeners before her audition for American Idol.

The American Idol golden ticket-winner has struggled against an eating disorder.
