Wendy Williams has broken her silence regarding her diagnosis of primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. The former daytime talk show host has received an overwhelming response from fans with well wishes and now she has publicly responded to those well wishes. Wendy Williams’ medical care team announced her official diagnosis in a press release on Thursday. It was revealed that she received the diagnosis last year, but has made the information public leading up to the release of the Lifetime documentary. People close to Wendy have said the diagnosis and progressive disease she faces has presented “significant hurdles” in her life.

Despite that, she is still able to do many things for herself and her medical teams say that she has maintained her “trademark sense of humor.” They are ensuring she receives the care she needs and is protected following her diagnosis being made public.

Amid the overwhelming response, Wendy has broken her silence regarding her dementia diagnosis. “I want to say I have immense gratitude for the love and kind words I have received after sharing my diagnosis of Aphasia and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD),” Wendy Williams said. “Let me say, wow! Your response has been overwhelming. The messages shared with me have touched me, reminding me of the power of unity and the need for compassion.”

She went on to say that she hopes her story benefits other people with FTD and that it can raise awareness. “I continue to need personal space and peace to thrive,” the former talk show host said in a statement. “Please just know that your positivity and encouragement are deeply appreciated.”

The Docuseries Is A Way To Share Her Narrative

There was an effort made by Wendy Williams’ legal guardian to halt the release of the documentary this week. Where Is Wendy Williams? executive producer Mark Ford came forward and said that the guardian and Wendy’s’ attorneys signed off on the project.

Efforts to stop the release of the Lifetime documentary have been blocked by the courts. The network plans to move forward with airing the docuseries this weekend.

Wendy Williams’ niece, Alex Finnie, has been making her rounds to promote the upcoming Lifetime docuseries. According to Alex, the documentary is a way for her aunt to share her narrative. “She said, now is the perfect time because I want to take ownership of my story,” Alex told Good Morning America on Thursday. 

The Lifetime series documenting Wendy’s life and health off-screen is set to premiere on Saturday, February 24 at 8 p.m. EST.
