Confused Ryan Paevey Fan Is Angry That Actor Is Not In Paging Mr. Darcy

Ever since the Jane Austen-inspired Loveuary movies were announced, Ryan Paevey’s fans have been confused as to why he is not starring in one of these movies.

It seems that the source of the confusion is that the title includes “Mr. Darcy.” Of course, Ryan and Cindy Busby starred in the 2016 Hallmark movie Unleashing Mr. Darcy. This was based on the Teri Wilson novel of the same name.

Teri reimagined Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice, renaming Fitzwilliam Darcy to Donovan Darcy, and including Cavalier King Charles dogs and dog show. Mr. Darcy is a classic literature character created by Jane Austen, and perhaps made most famous by Colin Firth in the 1995 BBC Pride & Prejudice production.

Moreover, Colin Firth continued to play Mr. Darcy in the 2001 movie Bridget Jones’s Diary. This was based on Helen Fielding’s novel of the same name. The author was inspired by the 1995 P&P production and created her own reimagined and modern Mr. Darcy. It made it all sweeter that Firth agreed to play Marc Darcy in all three movies.

What are these superfans saying?

One fan wrote on Facebook, “How ridiculous is the new Hallmark movie Paging Mr. Darcy? There is NO Ryan and No Cindy, the stars who made the first two movies terrific along with Francis Fisher. The first two movies have been loved by viewers for many years. I know both Ryan and Cindy have been willing to do a third movie, but Hallmark’s brilliant executive have other ideas. Why I have no idea.”

Fans had a lot of responses, Could they differentiate between the Jane Austen character and Ryan Paevey’s character based on a reimagined Mr. Darcy?

Were Hallmark Fans Confused?

It is hard to miss. There have been rants blowing up over  all social media platforms that Ryan Paevey is not in Paging Mr. Darcy. Many of these fans feel that the title is misleading.

Did regular Hallmark fans also find this confusing? It doesn’t look like it. Here are just some of the responses from this particular post. Were regular Hallmark fans confused by this title?

  • This is different movie and not from the series. But it would have been nice to make a new movie in the Paevey series for February too!
  • I really enjoyed that series but I never would have connected the new movies with that series.
  • I knew from the previews it’s not from the same series. I’m excited to see it.
  • I never thought that.
  • WHO CARES?? There are many more terrible things to worry about in the world than why Ryan and Cindy aren’t in a third movie!!!
  • Never thought it either! I enjoyed the movies with Ryan & Cindy, but knew right away these weren’t connected. That doesn’t make sense to me.
  • Most people won’t. If they get that confused that easily…they have the ads to help them. It doesn’t mess up anything. How silly.
  • How about just watch it?
  • The character of Mr. “Darcy” has been around longer than Ryan Paevey and Cindy Busby have.
  • I’m not confused because I’m aware who Jane Austen is. This is not a hard concept to grasp.
  • Are people seriously this dumb? I mean it’s just…Shocking.

Paper’s Incorrect Report May Have Confused Fans

All of this confusion may have started when Inside Ottawa Valley reported in October that Hallmark was filming Paging Mr. Darcy. They even name-dropped Cindy Busby, but did not mention Ryan Paevey’s name.

Furthermore, they shared the names of the characters and descriptions of the movie. While Cindy’s name and the name of this Jane Austen-themed Hallmark movie could have confused them, the characters did not include Aunt Violet, Donovan Darcy, or anything from the Teri Wilson

For several years, there have been questions on whether or not there would be a third Mr. Darcy movie. However, Hallmark has not made one. It is not clear if this is a legal issue regarding using the characters in this Teri Wilson series, or perhaps another reason. A good example of a change is the Murder She Baked movies turned into Hannah Swensen Mysteries. Therefore, fans don’t always learn the business reasons that are part of a decision.

Perhaps the network wanted to start fresh? Over the years, there has been much criticism over the years of their Jane Austen-themed movie titles that lacked a story that had  anything to do with Austen’s world.

Whatever the case, hopefully, viewers will tune in on Saturday, February 3, at 8 p.m., Eastern, for Paging Mr. Darcy, on the Hallmark Channel. This stars Will Kemp and Mallory Jansen.
