AGT: Fantasy League Kicks Off In The New Year

Mel B and Simon Cowell have worked on AGT for six seasons. Now, they are coming together again for the spinoff series AGT: Fantasy LeagueFellow judges Howie Mandel and Heidi Klum are joining them in the new series as well.

Additionally, the show has 40 contestants from the past returning to compete. Like the original series, they are all competing for first place and a $250,000 cash prize, which is only a quarter of what competitors in the original installation of the show receive. They typically receive $1 million over 40 years, which equates to $25,000 per year.

Viewers can vote for their favorite contestants through NBC’s official website or the AGT app.

Unlike AGT, the Fantasy League spinoff will allow the four judges to be more involved with the contestants. Each judge will get to choose 10 contestants to mentor throughout the competition. It is supposed to imitate a sports fantasy league draft.

The Golden Buzzer will still be a big part of the show but in Fantasy League judges can use it to steal competitors from other teams. Simon Cowell has spoken up about being upset about the Golden Buzzer twist on the new show.

“I’m really annoyed about that,” Simon admitted. “We really did mentor the acts. It is one thing judging acts, we can all judge acts. It’s another thing rolling your sleeves up and actually making decisions that are going to make a difference.”

He went on to say that he didn’t think any of the other judges would steal his acts, but they did. “So, I was really, really upset. I still am, actually,” he told Parade.

AGT: Fantasy League airs on Sundays and Mondays on NBC at 8 p.m. EST.
