Tristan Thompson Picks Up Huge Drug-Related NBA Suspension
Tristan Thompson won’t be playing basketball for the next month. The Cleveland Cavaliers star just picked up a long suspension handed down by the NBA. According to reports, the on-again-off-again boyfriend to Khloe Kardashian was suspended under the league’s drug policy.
Here is what happened to Tristan Thompson and how long his suspension will last.
NBA suspends Tristan Thompson for drug violations
The NBA announced on Tuesday that the league has suspended Cleveland Cavaliers star Tristan Thompson for 25 games. In the NBA press release, the league said that Thompson tested positive for two banned substances. This violates the anti-drug program and since it was two substances, his suspension will last for the full 25 games.
The suspension is also without pay. The two drugs that Thompson was suspended for using were ibutamoren and SARM LGD-4033. Ibutamoren is an investigational new drug labeled as a growth hormone. Bodybuilders often use SARM LGD-4033 (Ligandrol) for muscle enhancement. The suspension will start on Wednesday when the Cavaliers play the Milwaukee Bucks.
Neither Thompson nor the Cavaliers have released a statement about the suspension. This is Tristan’s second stint with the Cavs. He was with Cleveland when LeBron James returned and led them to an NBA Championship. Tristan has also played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings, and Boston Celtics over his career. He rejoined Cleveland this season and is averaging 12 minutes a game of playing time.
Tristan Thompson still embroiled with Kardashians
This news comes as there is more controversy surrounding Tristan Thompson and Khloe Kardashian. There have been several rumors that Tristan and Khloe reconciled late last year. This also played out in The Kardashians Season 4. However, the rumors also say they are hiding it from the public. The two share two children. They are also the legal guardians of Amari, Tristan’s younger brother, following the death of their mother.
There is some thought that Tristan and Khloe might end up finding their way back together during this time. If anything, it could provide some new drama for another season of The Kardashians if he does show back up during his time away from the NBA. With Khloe sharing photos of Amari at Christmas, it seems she is always close to Tristan in one way or another.
With the suspension, Tristan might be looking for things to do while he is unable to play with the Cavaliers. Looking at the Cavaliers’ schedule, Thompson will not be eligible to return until the March 16 game against the New Orleans Pelicans, meaning the 25-game suspension will last for just over seven weeks.
