Big changes may be in store for General Hospital. The daytime drama reported fired both head writers. Who could replace them? Keep reading for all the details.

General Hospital Marks 60th Anniversary With Huge Announcement

General Hospital first premiered on television around the country in April 1963. It is one of four remaining soaps. GH is the only daytime drama remaining on ABC. Days of Our Lives airs on NBC. The Young and The Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful are CBS soaps.

GH is the longest-running soap opera still in production. ABC honored the sudser on January 4 with a primetime special that aired after the Golden Wedding.

General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Storytelling included clips from years past and interviews with current and former stars. The network chose the primetime slot to make a surprising casting announcement. Steve Burton is returning to General Hospital three years after his firing.

Burton and Ingo Rademacher were both fired in 2021 for refusing to get the mandated COVID-19 vaccination. Rademacher is embroiled in a lawsuit with the network.

Head Writers Fired?

In addition to Burton’s rehiring, General Hospital has undergone a lot of changes in the last few months. The soap recently paid tribute to late actress Jackie Zeman, who played Bobbie Spencer for 45 years.

Actresses Kelly Monaco, Eden McCoy, and Kirsten Storms were unexpectedly temporarily recast.

However, if the rumors swirling on social media are right, another huge change is coming to the soap.

Soap writer Alan Sarapa retweeted an article from The Buzz that claims co-head writers Dan O’Connor and Chris Van Etten have been fired from General Hospital.

The pair have been head writers for the soap since 2019. According to The Buzz, Elizabeth Korte will serve as the head writer for now. Korte was previously co-head writer in 2001.

Many GH reacted positively to the news of the rumored firing. Check out some of the comments:

  • I’d take Guza back at this point because the show is so bad
  • Even if this is true, I don’t see a lot of things changing, as long as Frank is still there. He needs to go, as well.
  • If that means some of these storylines finally come to an end, ships that aren’t shipping get docked and the ones that are get to sail as they should AND we get adventure and love again, then they can’t leave fast enough.
  • With those ratings I’m not surprised that heads would be in a duffle bag.
  • This would make my day!!! Ever since they took over GH has gone downhill!

ABC has yet to confirm any changes at General Hospital. Do you hope the rumors are true? Share your thoughts in the comments.
