In the post, Emily said that she started mining in 2012. She took what was supposed to be a way to make money for music school in Europe and turned it into a 12-year career. She also said it defines how she lives with her husband and children. The Bering Sea Gold star admitted that living a childhood in rural Alaska is special. It is how she was raised. It is how she is raising her children.

“The kids will spend time in nature, learning to fish and hunt and navigate the deck of a boat,” Emily wrote. “And they will grow up around some of the most amazing, capable people I know – those who thrive in America’s last frontier.”

She also admitted that the kids must survive the nine months of cold weather and be aware of things like bears, moose, and wild dogs. Arthur is Emily’s second child, following daughter Evie. She said the kids have to learn to deal with her and her husband, who dives on the Eroica on Bering Sea Gold.

Emily to leave Bering Sea Gold after new baby?

However, Emily then dropped a shocker. She said it is unlikely they will ever put a diver under the ice again. She said that “the juice just doesn’t seem worth the squeeze” anymore. The Bering Seas Gold star said this is her second season to opt out of ice mining and she doesn’t believe she will return to the job again.

Emily explained the ice mining seen on Bering Sea Gold takes nine months a year at a breakneck pace. She said this would cause her and Alex to spend too much time away from both Arthur and Evie at an age where the kids need their parents. She also said it would be bad parenting to take an infant into a -20 F sea mining expedition.

“Maybe one day, as the kids grow older and get their own lives, we’ll have to ask ourselves: is it even worth it moving the kids twice a year to continue mining for gold in the wild northwest?” Emily said. “But that’s a question for another day.”

Please help congratulate Being Sea Gold star Emily Riedel on her new baby boy. Are you surprised that she is going to put the ice mining career behind her? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
