Kristine Barnett Calls Natalia Grace A ‘Sociopath’ In Scathing Post
Kristine Barnett speaks out regarding claims made against her by Natalia Grace in the new docuseries, The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: Natalia Speaks.
In the ID docuseries, Natalia alleges that her former adoptive mother abused and neglected her. She recalls several instances in which Kristine physically assaulted her. In one episode, Grace alleges that Kristine used pepper spray on her on more than one occasion. Grace also accuses Kristine of using a belt to physically abuse her as well.
Released on January 1, Season 2 of The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: Natalia Speaks offers insight into her horrifying experience. In the six-episode season, Natalia speaks out on Kristine’s manipulative nature. “This one little piece of paper throws every single lie that the Barnetts has said right into the trash with a match,” Natalia said in one episode. “This is so big. Because literally, this has been 13 years of just two people lying their butts off. They ruined a kid’s life. They painted [me] as some big monster.”
Kristine Barnett Speaks Out Against Natalia Grace
In a January 4 Facebook post, Kristine refuted the claims made by Natalia in The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: Natalia Speaks. She began her post by writing, “Natalia was a very much loved and cared for member of my family. She was not abused by anyone in my family. Let’s get straight to these allegations. Nobody ever took a belt to Natalia and the allegations that she was “beaten” are just plain false. Any discipline of Natalia was very minimal and was not out of the bounds of normal parenting.”
According to Kristine, although she wouldn’t consider herself a “perfect mom,” she always did her best for all of her children. “Anyone who has children knows that feeling of going to bed at night hoping you have done the right things and enough for your children on a daily basis,” she wrote. “I am sure there were plenty of fails and some successes I had as a parent and mom. But I was not abusive to my children.”
While Kristine hopes to find a second chance, she says the fact that she was never found guilty in the legal system should prove her innocence in the court of public opinion. “I was charged with various levels of causing bodily harm to Natalia due to these allegations as was Michael Barnett,” Kristine wrote. “Michael faced a jury trial and was found innocent. Mike immediately testified in a pretrial at my trial. My case was dismissed. If there had been any abuse of Natalia or evidence of it, I would have been found guilty of it and I would be in jail.”
Natalia Was ‘Allowed To Make Her Own Adult Decisions’
In 2010, Kristine and Michael Barnett adopted Natalia, a young orphaned child from Ukraine. At the time, the couple did not realize that Natalia had a form of dwarfism called Spondyloepiphyseal. The Barnetts then say that they became suspicious that their newest family member was not actually a child. They claim that they observed behavior that wasn’t consistent with a child. The couple would then accuse Natalia of trying to harm them and their biological children.
Following their internal strife, Kristine says that it was recommended that she should find other living arrangements for Natalia. “Another important thing to mention is Natalia was never ‘abandoned.’ I did not ever leave or want to “get rid of” Natalia,” wrote Kristine. She claims that Natalia was, “Allowed to make her own adult decisions of where to live and what to do with her life and time while living where she has.”
The couple were eventually charged with abandoning Natalia. However, Michael was found not guilty of three counts of neglect and conspiracy to commit neglect of a dependent in 2022. In March 2023, the charges against Kristine were dropped. According to Kristine, this still hasn’t stopped from her reputation being tarnished. “The fact that these false allegations are occurring after a trial with evidence which was dismissed is disturbing. It’s like being assumed guilty after being proven innocent.”
