‘Big Little Brawlers’ Set To Premiere On Discovery

Discovery Channel’s Big Little Brawlers, a series following a group of little people wrestlers in Tennessee, will premiere on January 9.

On December 14, Warner Brothers announced that they ordered the six-part series, Big Little Brawlers. According to the press release, the show is described as a collection of passionate athletes striving to achieve their goals. The series will follow the cast, “As they attempt to achieve their piece of the American Dream. The group of little people athletes with “larger-than-life” personalities are forced to overcome ego, injury, and the limitations imposed by society.

Howard Lee, President of Discovery Networks and TLC, describes the series as an inspirational tale. “Alongside spectacular feats of athleticism, this Discovery series broadens the way we reveal compelling stories of remarkable people overcoming huge odds,” he said.

Details Behind Big Little Brawlers

The wrestling-centric series is set in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Big Little Brawlers follows athletes in the Micro Wrestling Federation, one of the most recognizable little-person wrestling leagues in the world. The show will offer an intimate look into the lives of some of the most colorful people in the league.

“Pinky Shortcake” and “Syko,” are both parents and wrestling partners. They will attempt to navigate their relationship both in and out of the ring. Described as the voice of micro wrestling, “Ivar the Micro,” has dreams of going from hype man to wrestler despite significant physical risk. Fan-favorite veteran “Lil’ Show” wrestles to support his wife and children but fears that time has caught up to him. Lastly, the show features up-and-coming wrestler “Hot Rod,” who must prove that his talent lives up to his ego.

Despite internal dramas and frustrations, Micro Wresting Federation CEO Jack Darrell Hillegass encourages the group to work together. The series leads up to ‘MicroFest,’ the biggest micro wrestling event of the year.

A Look At The Micro Wrestling Federation

Founded in 2000, the Micro Wrestling Federation is the longest-running organization within the Little Person wrestling industry. According to its official website, the MWF is a full-scale, WWE-type event supported by an entire cast under five feet tall.

The Micro Wrestlers have been featured in Sports Illustrated Magazine, Country Music Television, and the WWEThe Micro Wrestling Federation performs over 500 shows a year from coast-to-coast. The league is headquartered at The Microtorium in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. 

The MWF currently has over 280,000 followers on its Instagram page. In a January 2 post, the MWF noted the upcoming premiere of Big Little Brawlers. “We’re a week away from our TV series premiere! Who’s tuning in for #BigLittleBrawlers on Jan 9th? Set your DVR, phone a friend, write your local representatives,” the post writes. “Tell them YOU are an OG Micro Fan and YOU always knew this day would come. Thanks for believing, supporting and appreciating us as athletes and entertainers. We’re in this together.”
