After enduring through the writer’s strike, Jeopardy! fans are not happy with the game show’s current episode schedule.

For anyone who regularly tunes in to Jeopardy!, they’d know that this season has been far different than previous seasons. During the tail-end of the five-month-long WGA strike, the show opted to remain on the air. Using recycled clues from previous seasons, Jeopardy! returned for its 40th season in September 2023.

But for most Jeopardy! fans, they have not been happy with the format of the show. The absence of regular episodes has left them yearning for the past.

Jeopardy! Fans Are Not Happy With Tournament Heavy Schedule

One of the main reasons that some Jeopardy! fans are not happy with Season 40 has been the reliance on tournaments. As a way to work around the WGA strike in September, the show looked to its previous contestants as an opportunity to shake things up. Second Chance and Wildcard tournaments have filled much of the show’s schedule.

For one fan, the tournament overload has become too much. They believe that the new season hasn’t actually started until regular episodes return. “Jeopardy would be more watchable if maybe……… THEY START A NEW SEASON! Instead of 8 straight months of a second chance, a third chance, champion of champions BS,” the fan wrote on X.

“All these freakin tournaments to start your season is absolute bulls***. No one want to see 20 weeks of loser tournaments. Are you guys hard up on cash…because you are saving $200,000 every week of your stupid tournaments,” another fan wrote.

Despite the increased amount of tournaments, one of the show’s biggest draws has been put on hold for months. The Tournament Of Champions sees the “best of the best” Jeopardy! contestants face off against each other in a bid to secure the $250,000 grand prize.

Fans Are Confused By The Show’s Episode Layout

In addition to moving away from regular episodes, Jeopardy! has also changed the format to its two-day tournament finales. A move that has many fans shaking their heads. In the past, the show would air the finale episodes on Thursdays and Fridays. In Season 40, Jeopardy! has begun to air the episodes on a Friday and Monday format.

One Jeopardy! fan took to Reddit to voice their displeasure for the new episode layout. In a post on the show’s subreddit, the user questioned the move. “Anyone here besides me find it annoying that the “two-game total-point affairs” for S39 Second Chance are on a Friday-Monday cadence,” the post asked.

In an attempt to understand the change, one fan theorized the show’s thought process. “I think they’ve stopped doing Finals for tournaments on Fridays because it’s the lowest rating day. I’m not a big fan of them carrying over to the next week either and having the next set or regular episodes start mid-week but it is what it is,” wrote the fan.

Another user noted that the format for tournaments has been awkward for years. “I know this year is all messed up because of the writers strike. But even the last couple years have made me really miss the 2 week tournament format,” the fan wrote. “It was just so perfectly laid out, and made so much sense and was easy to follow. You knew exactly how long it would last. It became such a convoluted mess when they went to the “it could end any time between Wednesday and next Monday” or whatever format of the finals being first to a certain number of wins, that it just made it hard to care.”

What do you think of the two-day split? Should Jeopardy! go back to the way things used to be? Let us know your opinion in the comments section.
